Abstract
This
study was based on the assessment of noise pollution and its health implication
in selected sawmills, in Otor-Iwhrekor community, Ughelli North Local
Government Area, Delta State. To achieve this, four study objectives were
drawn: to find out the level of noise that is being generated from the sawmill
industry, to examine the causes of noise pollution in the study area, to
examine the health implications of noise pollution and to find out possible
ways of remedying this problem. The sample size of 200 respondents was used for
this study.  The data collected were
analyzed using the descriptive statistics and chi-square method. The findings
obtained revealed that sawmill industry do generate noise pollution on
Otor-Iwhrekor community, sawmill industry contributes to noise pollution
significantly which leads to significant health implications of noise pollution
in the study area. Based on these findings, it is recommended that proper
health education and awareness campaign should be carried out by environmental
health workers. Also proper substitution and modification of machines should be
carried out and there should be enforcement of laws relating industrial noise
pollution.
