By mid-2013 most of our international programmes

The role
The Programme Development and Quality department
leads the development and implementation of our advocacy strategy/activities to
achieve policy and political change; leads and manages Save the Children’s
advocacy engagement with the Liberian government; and forges advocacy alliances
with key opinion makers in Liberia. One of our current global priorities is to
be at the forefront of the debate on the development of a post-2015 framework
to replace the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and to ensure that it is
born out of a participatory process, emphasising equality, equity,
sustainability and rights above all else.

This position will oversee Save the
Children’s broader advocacy and input on the post-2015 development agenda and
provide assistance to the existing advocacy staff members. The post holder will
develop and implement advocacy strategies to influence the national government,
but also relevant regional organisations and other key governments in West
Africa. They will also seek to engage and influence key UN bodies, national
opinion formers and civil society leaders across West Africa. They will work
closely with the SCUK adviser currently seconded to the Liberian President’s
High Level Panel Secretariat.

Qualifications and experience
Highly desirable
- At least three years of experience in policy
and advocacy work at the national and regional levels - Excellent communication skills
(written/spoken) for advocacy and media work, and awareness of political
sensitivities - Track record in policy influencing
- Understanding of the Post 2015 development
agenda - Good facilitation skills and experience of
managing projects and events - Understanding and experience of aid, poverty
and development issues and delivering policy and advocacy in developing
countries - Experience of working in a multi-cultural
environment - Knowledge of international development and UN
processes and structures - Strong conceptual and analytical skills and
the ability to think strategically and creatively - Ability to prioritise, plan and organise work
in a complex institutional setting - Experience working in developing country
contexts, preferably on advocacy or policy development - Ability to work well and flexibly, while also
able to take initiative and work under pressure with limited supervision - Fluency in written/spoken English is essential
