Summary
  • Intimate
    Partner Violence (IPV) violates a woman’s human rights, threatens her
    physical and mental health and limits her educational and economic
    opportunities with repercussions for her family and community.
  • The
    link between women’s financial independence and gender-based violence has
    inspired programs aiming to empower women economically as a potential
    violence prevention strategy.
  • The
    Economic and Social Empowerment Officer will be based in Konduga with
    frequent visits within and outside Borno state as the Job demands. He/she
    is responsible for conducting assessment to identify communities and
    implement the economic and social empowerment (VSLA) and gender discussion
    group sessions.
  • This
    will include VSLA Participants and their male partners on various aspect
    of household and relationship dynamics, including household financial
    planning, communication, power dynamics, negotiation skills and decision
    making.
  • He/she
    should work in collaboration with IRC ERD sector to enhance coordination
    and service delivery to beneficiaries. He/she will work with ERD Sector to
    conduct training of trainers (TOT) in VSLA and gender group dialogue
    sessions.
  • He/she
    should do regular field visits and attends group meetings, Monitors and
    provide support where necessary.
  • He/she
    should play active role in building up community capacity to effectively
    run EA$E groups. This position reports directly to the WPE Senior Program
    Manager.
Specific
Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the EASE officer include but are not limited to the
following:
Programs:
  • Work
    with WPE Community mobilizers and ERD to conduct an assessment to identify
    communities for the establishment of EASE groups
  • Work
    alongside women and ERD to establish and train groups in VSLA, Gender
    discussions and business skills.
  • Conduct
    a TOT of staff and partners in VSLA, Gender discussions and business
    skills.
  • In
    collaboration with ERD and women groups design a group bye-laws and
    support groups to elect their executives.
  • Organize
    and facilitate a gender dialogue sessions with VSLA participants and their
    male partners.
  • Ensure
    to check records during VSLA meetings for accuracy and provide support
    where necessary and share data with M&E officer and senior program
    Manager.

    and share challenges with ERD and WPE Senior program manager and design
    strategy to address challenges.
  • Provide
    any Village Savings and Loan Association information and security related
    to security focal point and WPE Program Manager in a timely manner for

Education

Summary
of Responsibilities
  • The
    GBV Community trainer assists the Program Manager/Coordinator with activities
    of the WPE program specifically in the spectrum of GBV prevention
  • The
    Prevention staff will performs training functions in the camps and host
    communities in Borno state. He/she will help design prevention activities
    that will improve on program quality. Will take the lead in planning and
    conducting Trainings on GBV and human rights issues and the monitoring and
    evaluation of training and sensitization activities.
  • The
    Prevention staff will take the lead in developing IEC materials that will
    improve on prevention and response of GBV, collates reports and statistics
    on trainings and sensitizations conducted in the field and submit to
    program Manager/Coordinator

    assistance in relation to prevention activities and prepares standardized
    training modules.

Key
Duties and Responsibilities

Training:
  • Take
    lead in all GBV training activities.
  • In
    collaboration with IRC Local partners, community mobilizer and case worker
    plan and conduct prevention activities including but not limited to
    awareness raising campaigns and community sensitizations.

    a GBV training needs assessment for WPE staff, IRC sector staff, Partners,

  • Communicate
    with the WPE Manager/Coordinator on progress, constraints, and training
    needs identified and any other matters pertaining to the operations of the
    GBV Program.
  • In
    collaboration with WPE Staff design an effective and appropriate training
    strategy, plan of action and project time line.
  • Meet
    with WPE Manager/coordinator on a weekly basis to coordinate work

Reporting:
  • Compile

    material support in accordance with their level of vulnerability and needs

    violence (GBV) is a serious human rights and public health issue affecting
    women and girls around the world. It impacts all aspects of women and
    girl’s physical, emotional, psychological and social well-being. It has
    harmful consequences for the individuals who experience it, their
    families, and communities as a whole
  • The
    IRC’s Women’s Protection Empowerment team implements a multi-sectoral GBV
    prevention and response program which engages multiple organizations and
    actors from the IDP and NGO community, UN agencies and all sectors of IRC
  • The
    Women’s Protection and Empowerment (WPE) program has developed ‘My Safety,
    My; Wellbeing’ (MSMW) curriculum to equip adolescent girls with key
    knowledge and skills to help them to reduce, prevent and respond to Gender
    Based Violence (GBV).
  • The
    curriculum has been organized in a way to enable girls to develop trust
    amongst themselves and with the facilitators and it is separated into two
    parts; 10-14 and 15-19. 20 girls in a group will enroll in 24 two-hour
    sessions over the course of 12 weeks. Skills-building sessions address
    topics such as communication, decision making, confidence and problem
    solving, each with a specific focus on GBV, early marriage etc.
Summary
Statement of Duties and Responsibilities
  • Under
    the leadership of the Psychosocial Officer, the Adolescent Girl Assistant
    will conduct an assessment to identify adolescent girls and mentors based
    on criteria, provide trainings for mentors, conduct sessions for
    adolescent girls, female and male parents, supervise and support mentors

  • Competency
    in using and maintaining field-based communications systems (HF, VHF
    radios and Satellite phones).
  • Fluency
    in English (written, spoken, comprehension). Knowledge of local north east
    language is highly desired.
  • Training
    in First Aid and Fire Safety.
  • Competent
    report writing skills.
  • Disaster
    management and response training.
Required
Experience:
  • 2-3
    years’ security-related experience with UN/INGOs operating in the North
    East Nigeria.
  • Experienced
    and knowledgeable in security related subjects, threat/risk assessment,
    security management, and personal and organizational physical security
    awareness.
  • Previous
    services with the Nigerian Disciplined forces will be a desired advantage.
    Certificate of discharge will be required as proof.
  • Proven
    experience of working effectively in complex security environments and
    situations.
  • Experience
    in developing safety related technical tools, guidelines and systems.

  • Ability
    to work closely, professionally and constructively with all others
    regardless of nationality, ethnicity, gender, religion, race, tribe, or
    cultural background.

Environment
  • The
    position will work in the Gwoza Field Office. The program site in Northern
    Nigeria. This is security level 3 – orange
