Background / General description:
The World Bank’s Poverty Reduction and Economic
Management unit (PREM) in Tanzania is recruiting an Economist to join the unit
as a Research Analyst. The position is based in Dar es Salaam. The contract
will be for an initial period of one year; with a possibility of renewal for
another year subject to sustained good performance and business needs. The
selected candidate will be responsible for: managing the institutional
database, macroeconomic modelling, economic monitoring, as well as production
of various policy notes in the areas of public expenditure and Macroeconomic
development. The candidate will also support the unit to respond timely to
various data requests from the management at both country and headquarters
level and from other external stakeholders. The Research Analyst will report to
the Lead Economist/Cluster Leader for Tanzania, Uganda, and Burundi. The

Duties and Accountabilities:

About 40% of the working time of the Research
Analyst will be spent on data collection and database management. Guided by
senior staff of the unit, the Research Analyst will liaise with different
institutions responsible for production of macro-economic data to ensure timely
accessibility of the data. S/he will ensure proper storage and dissemination of
the data to other team members in need of the same, as well as regular
institutional data reporting to HQ. The successful candidate will also be
responsible for managing the live data base system (LDB) by ensuring regular
update and reporting to HQ.

Selection Criteria:
The successful candidate should be a holder of a
post graduate degree in Economics/Finance preferably masters, with at least
five years of direct relevant experience; OR equivalent combination of
education and experience. The successful candidate should demonstrate
