Position Description:

The State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) is the only public university in
Zanzibar established by Act NO.8 of the House of Representatives of 1999. Since
its inception in 2002 it has been expanding in academic programmes as well as
student enrolment. Its vision is to be the most preferred University in the
Eastern Africa.

SUZA invites applications from suitably qualified and competent Tanzanians to
be considered to fill the following vacant posts:

Duties and Responsibilities

Plans, directs and manages the operations of the students’ welfare department.
Offers academic, social and health guidance and counseling to all needy
students.

Develops appropriate strategies for detecting, preventing and managing
conflicts among students and university community.

Formulates and recommend appropriate policies related to students’ issues
including that of worship for the entire University community. Designs and keep
in place sound students’ records and by-laws and ensure their adherence by all
students.

Manages physical fitness and social activities for students.

Assists the DVC Administration in the enforcement of students’ by-laws.

Liaises with legal officer in dealing with students legal issues.

Prepares annual budget of the students’ welfare department and monitor its
implementation.

Should be not less than 40 years.

Makes follow ups of students with pending loan issues.

Performs any other duties as delegated by his/ her seniors.

Requirements
Holder of Masters Degree in relevant field with not less than four (4) years of
working experience in that field

A PhD in Guidance! Education! Counseling will be an added advantage.

Must be of high integrity, emotionally matured with high sense of
confidentiality and socially accessible by students with personal problems.

Must appreciate diversity in terms of beliefs, age, ethnicity, special needs and
political world outlook.

Must be able to detect students’ latent conflicts, unrest and in collaboration
with management, prevent/contain it effectively.

Must be able to communicate effectively in both Kiswahili and English.
