SUMMARY
OF POSITION
PSI
seeks a Technical Adviser, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) in Malawi to
provide technical expertise and guidance for the anticipated USAID
funded-program Organized Network of Services for Everyone”s Health (ONSE). The
goal of this program is to improve the health of Malawians through improved
access to priority health service; improved quality of priority health
services; strengthened district health systems and increased community demand
for priority services. This is a full-time position reporting to the Chief of
Party (COP) and based in Lilongwe, Malawi.
*This
position is contingent on funding.
RESPONSIBILITIES****:
  • Works
    with DCOP in the design, roll-out and day to day management and
    implementation of WASH activities
  • Work
    with the districts and other local WASH management and promotion
    structures or groups and community mobilization around WASH issues
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master”s
    Degree in Social Sciences or a related field such as in Public Health
    Engineering / Geohydrology / Public Health / Rural Development, Civil
    Engineering with extensive experience managing & Implementing WASH
    Projects at the INGO level
  • Minimum
    eight years” experience with progressively increasing responsibility for
    designing, managing and implementing complex WASH programming in
    developing countries involving multiple stakeholders and implementing
    partners
  • Demonstrated
    hands-on experience in building government, non-government, and community
    capacity to address WASH issues; and
  • Demonstrated
    management skills, including relevant experience in direct supervision of
    professional staff
  • Experience
    working on WASH in East Africa or specifically in Malawi, East or Southern
    Africa
  • Private
    sector expertise and experience in small and medium enterprise development
    and/or social marketing and market development approaches in support of
    such development
  • Water,
    sanitation, and hygiene, including engineering applications, overseeing
    construction, and environmental concerns
  • Extensive
    formative research, progressive M&E applications, surveys/studies, and
    evaluations
  • WASH
    sector finance and micro-finance expertise
  • Track
    record of effective liaison with government officials and policy makers.
  • Expertise
    in Behavior change communication and hygiene promotion
  • Proven
    experience in undertaking activities aimed at empowering poor communities
    and individuals including organizing civil society groups or community
    based.
  • Strong
    communication skills, both interpersonal and written, to fulfill the
    technical and managerial responsibilities proposed.
  • Strong
    English writing and speaking skills. Knowledge of Chichewa preferred.
