Palladium seeks a
seeks a Production and Extension Manager for the anticipated five-year,
USAID-funded Malawi Ag Diversification for Incomes and Nutrition program. The
Feed the Future Malawi Ag Diversification for Incomes and Nutrition activity
contributes to USAID/Malawi’s Feed the Future goal of sustainably reducing
poverty and stunting in eight districts of Ce

ntral and Southern Malawi. This
activity fosters inclusive and sustainable growth of Malawi’s agricultural
sector and improves the nutritional status of women and children under five
through a proven nutrition-sensitive approach of layering agriculture and
nutrition behavior change interventions in rural communities, while increasing
the competitiveness of high-value, nutrient-rich value chains through support
for agricultural enterprises and increased access to markets and finance.

  • Provide
    the direction of the program as it relates to the promoting increased
    production and good farming practices in the target value chains
    (groundnuts, soybeans, and orange fleshed sweet potato).
  • Administer
    the design and implementation of interventions and training programs for
    local farmers on improved farming techniques in part through the
    introduction of agricultural technologies relevant to the target value
    chains.
  • Oversee
    district level project interventions and project level extension advisory
    services that stimulate smallholder farmers’ agricultural production of
    the target commodities and promote good agricultural farming practices.
  • Promote
    sustainability and establish follow-on activities to leverage the results
    of the project in order to achieve a greater impact on both agricultural
    production and rural consumption of nutrient-rich products.
  • Monitor
    program activities and produce written reports detailing project progress.

Additional
assignments in accordance with the needs of the program.
·        
Master’s
degree in Agronomy, Soil and Crop Sciences, Agricultural Economics or a related
field.
·        
Experience
working in Southern Africa preferred.
·        
Prior
experience in development programs working on production and post-harvest
handling of crops generating excellent results and effectiveness in terms of
outputs.
  • Prior
    experience in curricular development for farmer trainings under
    donor-funded projects.
·        
Exposure
to the latest agricultural technologies, as well as climate resilient farming
techniques.
·        
Previous
experience working on international donor-funded programs such as USAID
strongly preferred.
·        
Ability
to travel throughout the country as needed.
·        
Professional
fluency in English required. Working knowledge of Chichewa, Chewa, and Nyanja
preferred.
