Finca La Libertad Permaculture and Natural Building volunteer opportunity in Costa Rica

Type: full-time volunteer opportunity with meals and camping (see below)
Organization: Finca La Libertad
Location: Colonia La Libertad, Costa Rica, Central America

Finca La Libertad is a working organic permaculture and natural building farm in the North West of Costa Rica in a town called Colonia la Libertad. With the help of volunteers we are practising permaculture design and implementation combined with our ideals of organic living. We strive to make all of our structures from natural building materials including sustainably harvested wood, cob, bamboo and natural oils. We are also trying to recycle and compost all of the waste from our farm through our chicken tractor, worm farm and composting toilet.

Finca La Libertad is open to volunteers who can be involved in all aspects of life on the farm. This includes collecting fire wood, planting, cooking, feeding animals, tending the gardens, compost building, and any natural building projects we currently have taking place. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their suggestions, ideas and to collaborate with us on any projects they wish to develop.

If you are interested in volunteering with us please complete the Finca La Libertad Volunteer Form (http://fincalalibertad.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/Finca-La-Libertad-Volunteer-Form2.docx) and send it to info@fincalalibertad.org

Accommodation:
Due to the early stages of the project, volunteers will be camping so please bring a tent and any other equipment you will need to be comfortable (see recommended equipment list below). We cook and share all meals together so there is no need to bring cooking equipment. We highly recommend bringing a good quality tent (a leaky tent will make you miserable); a hammock is NOT recommended and not very suitable for the humid tropics.

Food:
All meals are made together and will be provided for. Our general staples are rice/ beans, whatever veggies we have growing at the time and eggs from our chickens. Please let us know if you have any dietary requirements and we will let you know if they can be accommodated. As we are still at the beginning of our project we do buy some things from outside of the farm. For things such as coffee, fresh fruit…our fruit trees are still young!…and whatever else volunteers may want outside of staples we ask volunteers to make a contribution towards these purchases or bring them from town when they can.

Water:
We have a beautiful river which provides us with water for drinking, bathing, washing, and watering during the dry season. Volunteers are asked to bring biodegradable soap (eg: Dr. Bronners, Ecover or Bioland, which can be bought in Costa Rica).

Payment/ Work Exchange:
We ask for no payment as such only your hard work and sense of humor. We do however welcome donations of any amount from anyone who is willing or able. We do not go to the USA or Europe very often and appreciate when anyone can bring us some of the things which we cannot buy in Costa Rica. Please contact us for a list.
