Position Summary

The Fundraising Consul

tant will support the fundraising goals of Earth
Day Canada (EDC), in collaboration with EDC’s Development Committee.
S/he is expected to manage, execute and follow up — with result-driven
actions — all activities related to Earth Day Canada’s fundraising
goals, in a timely and cost-effective manner. This is a 4 month,
full-time contract position from January 5 to April 30, 2015. There is
the possibility of extension depending on the success of the contract.

Reporting

This position will report directly to the President.

Role and responsibilities

Fundraising
• Work with the Development Committee to identify funding priorities
and key targets.
• Determine feasibility of targets as per priorities and process for
application (e.g. determine if a consultation with the funder in
advance is necessary or advisable).
• Develop an outline for funding proposals to be reviewed with
appropriate staff (including targets for letters of support).
• Draft initial applications and letters of support. Secure
appropriate contact information.
• Review with appropriate staff, finalize and submit proposals.
• Develop crowdfunding and donor strategies and materials for specific
programs.

Donor and Sponsor Relations
• Develop a system for tracking funders and donors, reporting
requirements, disbursement schedules, communication protocols etc. Set
up a protocol to ensure that funding, sponsorship, program and
financial reports are sent to project and program-related sponsors in
a timely and regular manner.

Management
• Maintain accurate and timely records of all interactions with
potential donors and sponsors (e.g. a database of solicited funds,
communications and follow-up actions needed)
• Maintain accurate and timely records of all interactions with
existing donors and sponsors (reports due and renewal due dates etc.)
• Keep clear track of planned and anticipated income for regular
management reports.
• Manage all archive and institutional history of fundraising-related
activities and contacts.

Support
• Provide counsel to the Development Committee on best means and
opportunities for funding requests.
• Liaise, coordinate and collaborate with the communications team in
the creation and development of outreach materials for donor
solicitation, acknowledgement and cultivation.
• Produce briefing materials and talking points for the President
and/or Development Committee as required.

Minimum qualifications
• At least five years of fundraising experience (ideally spanning the
private sector, foundations, individual donors, and crowdfunding).
• Public relations, communications or relevant field experience.
• Demonstrated ability to plan, execute and manage work under tight
deadlines and on several files simultaneously.
• Strong organizational skills with an ability to attend to details.
• Initiative and ability to start from scratch and to quickly grasp
the range of Earth Day Canada activities, programs and needs.
• Commitment to good governance, integrity and transparency.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with experience in
communicating persuasively and effectively with a variety of audiences
and stakeholders, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to find creative solutions to problems and negotiate with
and influence others.
