Unison Health and Community Services in partnership with Toronto Green Community, is hiring 1 Garden Coordinator who will lead children’s gardening programs at community gardens across North York, and other garden programming in the Bathurst Finch Neighbourhood.
The successful applicant must be between the ages of 15 and 30 and a full time student returning to school in the fall.
Responsibilities:
• Coordinate and deliver the Children’s gardening program at 3-4 gardens in North York (planning garden-focused crafts and physical activites, explaining ideas of composting and sustainable gardening to children 14 and under)
• Liaise with existing community partners
• Manage materials requirements for children’s program budget and track attendance
• Report to TGC’s Great Garden Adventure Coordinator, meet biweekly at the TGC
office at Yonge and Eglinton
• Work with Unison’s Food Animator to organize and manage the Rockford Community Garden
• Research potential sites for a new community garden
• Build relationships with community members/organizations in the Bathurst Finch Area
• Attend monthly meetings of the Bathurst Finch Food Action Team
• Recruit and supervise youth and adult volunteers to assist with garden programming
Qualifications:
• Strong environmental/urban gardening background
• Experience with working with children/youth (Teaching experience an asset)
• Passionate about community development
• Arts and crafts skills an asset
• Ability to identify plants, basic gardening knowledge & composting
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work within a diverse community (people of different ages, abilities and cultural backgrounds)
• Able to work independently and as a team member
• Positive attitude and good sense of humour
• Must successfully pass a police record check
• Resident of the Bathurst-Finch neighbourhood or knowledge of the area an asset
• Second language including Tagalog and Russian although not required is an asset
