The City of Surrey’s Environmental Programs and Surrey Nature Centre team operates a wide range of environmental stewardship and education programs, including volunteer programs, special events, school programs, creation of non-personal media (signage, brochures), and outreach to the community.

We are looking for a part-time staff member to assist with our environmental stewardship programs. This position will include work with schools, individual volunteers and various community groups undertaking stewardship work in parks, including tree planting, invasive plant removal, park clean-ups and more. The position will also involve coordinating volunteers for environmental events and programs, planning and coordinating stewardship events and youth programs, assisting with promotion and marketing, completing various administrative duties and providing routine information to the public.

The successful applicant must have completed Grade 12, supplemented by post-secondary education in recreation, environmental studies, education or a related field, plus at least two year’s related experience; or an equivalent acceptable combination of training and experience. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, creativity, and experience working with children, youth and/or volunteers are all assets.

Other requirements include Occupational First Aid Level One Certificate or acceptable equivalent (or willingness to obtain), a valid BC Driver’s License with a safe driving history, and Consent to Disclosure of Criminal Record Information.

The hours and days of work will vary, but will generally be 32 hours per week, increasing at times throughout the year, and will be scheduled to address the priorities and needs of programs and events. Regular weekend work and some evenings will be expected.
