Visiting Fellowships (Postdoctoral and Senior) for International Applicants at IKGF in Germany

The International Consortium for Research in the
Humanities “Fate, Freedom, and Prognostication. Strategies of Coping with the
Future in East Asia and Europe” at the Friedrich-Alexander-University is
inviting applications for visiting fellowships for scholars from the
broader field of Sinology. Up to 10 international scholars may conduct
research for a period of twelve months at the consortium at any one
time. Candidates of all nationalities are encouraged to apply. The
project will run until 2015. The application deadline
is September 15th 2013.
Study Subject(s): The project will run until 2015 and will cover the following research
phases:
Phase 1: Philosophy and Intellectual History, Sacrality, Authorities, Places
Phase 2: Divination and Rationality, Elites and Counsel to Rulers
Phase 3: Modernity, Historical Thought.
Course Level: The fellowships are available for pursuing a
research program at IKGF.

Eligibility: The consortium primarily invites scholars from the broader field of
Sinology who are working on issues related to our research focus “Fate, Freedom
and Prognostication” and preferably those who are open to a comparative
approach in an Asian-European perspective. The consortium also encourages
scholars from fields beyond the leading discipline Sinology to apply. The
consortium welcome scholars from broader research fields namely, East and South
Asian Studies, Philosophy, History of Thought, History of Science, Social
History, History of European Early Modern Times, Religious Studies, Ethnology
or Literary Studies. Visiting scholars must hold a PhD degree and have outstanding
expertise in the focus of the research project. They expect your presence at
the consortium during your research stay and in the consortium’s activities
together with substantial research results in the form of publications.

applications for fellowships. They primarily invite scholars from the broader
field of Sinology who are working on issues related to our research focus
“Fate, Freedom and Prognostication” and preferably those who are open to a

Duration of award(s): Fellowships at the Consortium comprise a period of twelve months.
What does it cover? The consortium offers an inspiring research atmosphere in an
interdisciplinary and international environment. Salary is competitive and
offers the possibility to substitute the fellow at his or her home institution.

of interest, curriculum vitae, publication list, copies of certificates (PhD),
and a research proposal (up to 1000 words) together with the names and
addresses of two referees. Applications may be submitted by post or via email.
