Uppsala University Diamond Electronics PhD student position in Sweden

Uppsala University hereby declares the following position to be open for application:
PhD student position: Diamond Electronics
in the subject Engineering Science with specialization in the Science of Electricity at the Ångström Laboratory, Department of Engineering Sciences, Division of Electricity.
Starting date: 2012-01-01 or according to agreement.

The position is within the field of diamond electronic devices and electronic properties of CVD diamond. Diamond is a material with extreme material properties and in particular many extreme properties as a semiconductor. It has recently become possible to manufacture films of high purity single crystalline diamond, which opens up the possibility to utilize these properties in future electronic devices.

We seek a strong candidate with background in physics with some experience in one or
more of :
• Semiconductor device physics
• Semiconductor material characterisation

The successful candidate should have a Master of Science in electronics, physics, materials science or equivalent. Strong collaboration spirit and good communication skills in oral and written English are required.
We welcome female applicants, since the majority in the group is male.

The proposed work consists of:
(i) Material characterization of CVD diamond by standard characterization techniques and also improving methods for studying transport processes in diamond.
(ii) Modelling and making computer simulation of diamond electronic devices.
(iii) Making test structures and testing and field effect transistor devices.

The PhD position is for four years, extendable to a maximum of five years including departmental duties at level of at most 20% (typically teaching). Further information: http://www.teknat.uu.se and http://www.teknik.uu.se

Applications should include a brief description of research interest and past experience, CV, copies of exams, degrees and grades, a copy of your Master thesis (or a draft thereof) and other relevant documents. The candidates are encouraged to provide letter(s) of recommendation and contact information to reference persons.

For more information, please contact Professor Jan Isberg, e-mail: jan.isberg@angstrom.uu.se, phone +46(0)18-471 5821.
