attract the best and brightest students to the University of Alberta.

Students do not apply for
Recruitment Scholarships. Departments recommend and nominate eligible students
for relative scholarships by following the processes below.

University of Alberta
Course-Based Master’s Recruitment Scholarship

  • Description
The purpose
of this scholarship is to recruit superior students at the master’s level.
Recipients of this scholarship will also be offered Guaranteed
Housing
by Residence Services.
  • Value
Offered for
one year at a value of $17,000 plus payment of tuition and fees up to the
maximum cost for registration in the equivalent of 9 normal credit weights
(equivalent to 18 fee index units) in courses for the first Fall Term and
Winter Term of the Master’s program only.
  • Eligibility
The scholarship will be awarded to students
who:
• both
domestic and international students
• students being newly admitted to the University of Alberta in the Fall 2017
or Winter 2018 Term
• students who will be registered full-time in a course-based master’s degree
program with a clearly defined research component
• applicants with Admission GPA of 3.7 and higher
• students who have not been registered in the master’s program they are
recruited into
  • Process
There is no application form; eligible students are
considered on the recommendation of the admitting department. Students cannot
apply for this scholarship.
The department completes the nomination form,
attaches the required document(s) listed on the form and submits to the Faculty
of Graduate Studies and Research (FGSR) via email at grad.awards@ualberta.ca by
the nomination deadline. The FGSR reviews the nominations for eligibility and
completeness and forwards them to the Graduate Scholarship Committee for
adjudication.

University of Alberta
Thesis-Based Master’s Recruitment Scholarship

  • Description
The purpose
of this scholarship is to recruit superior students at the master’s level who
have the potential to become excellent doctoral students. Recipients of this
scholarship will also be offered Guaranteed
Housing
by Residence Services.
  • Value
The award is
valued at $17,000 for 12 months, plus full-time program and non-instructional fees,
and any applicable International Graduate Differential Fee. This scholarship is
not renewable.
  • Eligibility
The UAlberta Thesis-Based Master’s Recruitment
Scholarship is open to:
• newly
admitted students into a thesis-based master’s program in the Spring 2017,
Summer 2017, Fall 2017, or Winter 2018 Term
• students who will be registered full-time in a thesis-based master’s degree
program
• applicants with Admission GPA of 3.7 and higher
• students who have not been registered in the master’s program they are
recruited into
  • Process
There is no application form; eligible students are
considered on the recommendation of the admitting department. Students cannot
apply for this scholarship.

University of Alberta
Doctoral Recruitment Scholarship

  • Description
The purpose
of this scholarship is to recruit superior students at the doctoral level who
have the potential to contribute to the University of Alberta’s community and
research.
  • Value
Scholarships will be offered in increments of
$5,000. The department may decide how many increments of $5,000 to offer a
student.
The award value varies and is indicated in your
original letter of offer.
  • Eligibility
The
scholarship will be awarded to students who:
• are
Canadian citizens, permanent residents or international students
• are admitted to a doctoral graduate degree program by the department
• will be registered full-time in a doctoral degree program
• have an admission GPA of at least 3.7

might have additional selection criteria; please consult
with the department
into which you seek admission for more details.
  • Process
Each
department is assigned an allocation (please see link below). Individual
graduate departments are responsible for selecting nominees based on
eligibility criteria and allocations. Departments may choose to nominate
individuals based on a variety of criteria including academic record, letters
of appraisal, statement of program, applicant’s research, potential
contributions to research, and other technical experience.

4. FGSR notifies winners directly
For Departments:
  • Deadline
Nomination
deadlines are based on start dates and are as follows:
• For
students with a May 1, 2016 start date, the deadline is March 1, 2016.
• For students with a July 1, 2016 start date, the deadline is May 1, 2016.
• For students with a September 1, 2016 start date, the deadline is July 1,
2016
.
• For students with a January 1, 2017 start date, the deadline is November
1, 2016
.
Note: Any changes to an original
nomination must also be received by the above-specified dates.
