BOUNDLESS IS HIRING OUTDOOR EDUCATORS AND TEACHERS THIS JANUARY TO WORK IN OUR
ADVENTURE BASED BOARDING SCHOOL IN EASTERN ONTARIO
WE HIRE PEOPLE WITH THREE FOCI:
The Outdoor Focus:
While hard to precisely quantify, about 75% of our program is in the outdoors.
In the spring and summer, we do mostly whitewater – we feel the river in our bones.
In the boarding school, we do just about everything else you might want to do
outside – a list too prolific to describe here.
Those that specialize in the outdoor focus are often certified teachers.
Applicants must still present significant experience in their professional
lives with OLDER teenagers.
We also hire applicants with solid outdoor credentials and experience from
recreation programs and summer camp alumni wanting to take their experiences to
the next level.
Like all foci at Boundless, the outdoor staff will be crossing over to the
academic focus from time to time, especially in the boarding school.
Who really fits best in the outdoor stream? Emerging and experienced outdoor
professionals who want more than merely recreation – those that want to connect
with older teens and have greater depth in their relationships with students.
The Academic Focus
We hire certified teachers who are passionate about teaching compulsory
curriculum, especially high school English, History, Science and Math. We
usually hire teachers within a few years of their graduation. They must be of a
demographic where they can afford low wages for the initial Internship stage,
and can be away from their attachments for long periods of time.
Yet the capacity to teach compulsory curriculum isn’t sufficient. There must be
some acumen in the outdoors, strong physical fitness and adeptness with teens.
There is crossover to the outdoor focus for a sizeable portion of employment.
The Counselling Focus:
The counselling folks are the smallest of the three staff cohorts, but at
critical moments, are the most needed and have a huge impact on group process.
These are the people that help teens own their own s..t and stay balanced and
happy during their stay with us. This is also true of the other foci, but the
clinical crew bring something more to the table in this realm.
BSWs, MSWs, CYWs and other people with a history of working in adolescent
mental health are suitable candidates. Once again, the counselling crew cross
over to other foci all the time.
