Oghara community, single parents are faced with several challenges in the
upbringing of their children. Apart from the psychological and emotional
problems of losing or been separated from the other parent who was supposed to
take part in raising their child/children, the child also inherit the consequences
of the missing parent in the area of guardian and counselling, etc.

parents in the community has to go through a lot in the upbringing of their
children which includes provision of their social and economic needs, by
struggling alone to provide and cater for their children, protecting the
children from the ridicule they faced by their friends, educational support, and
standing by them as of father/mother, etc. As a result of these challenges,
single parents are faced with a feeling of helplessness, hopelessness,
loneliness, irritable and sometimes highly temperamental, lack of confidence,
stress over money and uncertainty of the future of their children.

of the above, the researcher has decided to embark on this study to assess the
challenges faced by single parents in the upbringing of their children in
Oghara community, Ethiope West Local Government Area, Delta
State with a view to suggesting measures to ameliorate these challenges.
