SNV Rwanda is looking for a local organization to
create sanitation demand through mobilization of communities in constructing
improved latrines and strengthening capacities of local masons in four
districts of the volcanic region.

Starting from July 2014, in partnership with UNICEF, SNV RWANDA kicked off a 9
month project on Sustainable Sanitation and Hygiene Behaviour Change in Four
Districts of Rwanda (Burera, Musanze, Nyabihu and Rubavu).
Among the main objectives of this project, is to contribute towards universal
access by improving access to sanitation for the community and also responding
to growing concerns related t
o the quality of existing toilets and their
sustained use.
SNV is looking for an experienced local organization in sanitation demand
creation which will be responsible for mobilizing communities on construction
of improved latrines, strengthening capacities of local masons, development of
manuals and other IEC materials, and ODE promotion, monitoring and
certification.
Objectives of the assignment
The objectives of the assignment are:
1. To mobilize, support and follow up local communities in constructing their
own improved latrines (at least 6,600 new improved latrines built with no
subsidy)
2. To improve capacities of local masons in building
improved latrines adapted to the targeted region

3. To demonstrate standard latrines that can be

The expected result of the assignment is:
1. Accelerating access to improved household latrines and tippy taps for 6600
HH in four districts

The Local organization must have at least a field Officer in the designated
district to undertake and coordinate the assignment. The local organization is
responsible of Identifying and assigning technical trainers (number to be
proposed in the methodology) who will support to carry out training of masons
and supervise construction of demonstration latrines. Estimate duration of the
assignment is 7 months.
Qualifications and experience
SNV seeks an experienced local organization with the
following profile:

- Good experience in the WASH sector in Rwanda
- Proven experience in rural development working
with local communities in Rwanda. - Proven experience in social mobilization and
capacity building in WASH sector in general and particularly related to
sanitation. - Proven experience in supervision and construction
of sanitation facilities.
