About the Organisation
The Aboriginal Sobriety Group Inc. (ASG) is a community-based organisation which provides care and support to Aboriginal people who wish to lead an alcohol and drug ‘free’ lifestyle.
Substance misuse, particularly alcohol abuse, is the major contributing factor in the breakdown of individual, family and community well-being throughout Australia. Domestic violence, ill health and increasing morbidity, child neglect, imprisonment, sexual abuse, acts of violence and premature deaths can result from substance misuse. ASG was established to address these issues by providing culturally appropriate services that will assist Aboriginal people to regain control over their lives and to re-establish themselves within the community.
