one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are
visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the
police checking/vetting process staff.

ROLE
PURPOSE:
The
Child Protection Officer is a member of Save the Children’s (SC) child
protection team in the Kirehe Office. Under the supervision of Child Protection
Coordinator, the Child Protection Officer Officer is responsible for
supervising and monitoring the implementation of child protection programme
activities in Mahama camp, including the supervision of volunteers. This
includes Save the Children’s child friendly spaces and psychosocial support,
awareness raising activities and child resilience programme, as well as
monitoring and evaluation.
In
the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected
to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours
accordingly.

KEY
AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Program
Planning and Implementation
•            
Support the Child Protection Coordinator to develop, implement and monitor
quarterly, monthly and weekly activity plans to achieve expected results. This
includes planning of activities, budgets and procurement.
•            
Ensure that all planned activities such as CFS, community awareness raising and
child resilience are implemented on time, to quality measures and within budget
as per the monthly plan. Where challenges arise, ensure that these are flagged
early, communicated to the Child Protection Coordinator and addressed in an
appropriate way.
•            
Technically lead program activities especially training and ensure that they
are being implemented within SC’s and international quality standards. 
•            
Work with children’s platforms and support monthly meetings to map protection
risks in the community and feedback for program improvement.
Child
Friendly Spaces
•            
Ensure child friendly space staff are identifying and referring vulnerable and
at-risk children for case management support.
•            
Provide support to the case management team, as required.
•            
Work with cultural sensitivity and respect the dignity of vulnerable children
and families and members of the host communities at all times.
•            
Ensure that child friendly space provide a safe, inclusive and fun environment
for all children, including vulnerable children and children with disabilities.
•            
Working together with parents to ensure a holistic approach to child
protection, conducting regular parents meetings.
•            
Conduct focus group discussions with beneficiaries (parents and children) on
the delivery of activities. Registers information collected through appropriate
reporting tools and report this information to Child Protection Coordinator.
Monitoring
and Reporting
•            
Ensure that all program data is properly and regularly collected by field
staff, check data and ensure that it is logically presented to the Child
Protection Coordinator.
•            
Contribute to the preparation of internal and external reports
•            
Participate in team reviews of results and program progress.
Collaboration
and Representation
•            
Represent Save the Children and the program with relevant government and non
government agencies to explain the programme, secure their support and follow
up with them on progress.
•            
Actively participate in internal coordination, bringing key issues, proposing
solutions and collaborating with other teams to build synergies and
efficiencies.
•            
Support in mainstreaming child protection into other programme sectors.
Emergency
Preparedness and Response
•            
Actively participate in the Country Office’s emergency preparedness and
planning processes as requested.
•            
In case of emergency, be prepared to contribute to the delivery of an
appropriate and timely response.

QUALIFICATIONS 
University
or college qualification in social science or in a relevant area or equivalent
work experience.
EXPERIENCE
AND SKILLS
Essential
•            
Minimum of 2 years relevant work experience in child protection or related
field.
•            
Proven technical knowledge and skills in the field of Child Protection.
•            
Proven ability to work as part of a team.
•            
Ability to identify the main gaps in child protection in the given context to
inform a holistic response for children.
•            
Experience in community mobilization and awareness raising activities
•            
Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact, and
diplomacy.
•            
Experience in training and capacity building and willingness to dedicate time
and patience to developing others.
•            
Experience in working through consultative and participatory processes and
ability to balance multiple competing interests to work towards a common goal.
•            
Strong organizational skills.
•            
Ability to supervise and mentor staff to achieve results.
•            
A good level of written and spoken English/ Kirundi and Kinyarwanda.
•            
Good computer skills (MS Office, including Outlook for email).
