Note: This is an HRSDC supported position. Applicants must be 30 years of age
or under, currently attending school full-time and returning to school
full-time in the fall. *
General
Responsibility:
The
position will work closely with the community garden program run by the centre.
They will help support the program which runs on a weekly basis, help with
program planning and prep, as well as help maintain the garden. This position
may also be asked to assist with other programs running out of the centre.
Specific
Duties:
  1. Support
    gardening programs (set up, planning, running activities, etc)
  2. Assist
    in developing garden activities
  3. Maintenance
    and care of community garden
  4. Maintenance
    of the community kitchen including food purchasing and cooking
  5. Assist
    in other health promotion activities/with other programs as required
Qualifications:
  1. Experience
    working in gardens (through paid employment or volunteer work)
  2. Excellent
    interpersonal skills
  3. Excellent
    writing skills
  4. Crisis
    intervention and conflict resolution skills are an asset
  5. Experience
    working with people who are marginalized including people who are
    homeless, people who use substances, people with mental health issues, and
    new immigrants.
  6. Knowledge
    of community resources, harm reduction and additional languages are assets
  7. Knowledge
    of food handling is an asset

range : $16/hr.
Hours
: 30 hours/week for July and August.
