Purpose
Working
directly with Oxfam Canada’s Youth and Campus Outreach Officer and
E-Communications Officer, this position will provide support to Oxfam Canada’s
efforts to spotlight and share the hard work and ongoing contributions of our
22 different campus and volunteer group across Canada. The Youth and Volunteer
Multimedia Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the creation of a
multimedia content management system and cutting edge strategy for content
creation and dissemination. They will also participate and become the key
multimedia person on site during Oxfam’s National CHANGE Summit, a week-long
leadership and knowledge-building forum for campus and community group leaders.
Here they will act as a resident photographer and videographer, capturing key
moments of the Summit. During and after the summit this individual will
complete a multimedia package consisting of a short video and photo series to
highlight this program, and our volunteers, to Oxfam Canada’s supporters. This
person will also support content dissemination on our website and social media
communication channels.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate
    the communications logistics for Oxfam’s National CHANGE Summit, including
    the equipment, communications and distribution strategy
  • Act
    as resident photographer and videographer capturing key moments of the
    Summit.
  • Assist
    and support in the development and implementing a more cohesive
    communications strategy to spotlight our campus and volunteer groups as
    well as a content management system.
  • Create
    a suite of multimedia products following the completion of the CHANGE
    Summit and assist in their distribution on social media, our website and
    other promotional channels.
Requirements
  • Fluency
    in English and excellent written communication skills, fluency in French
    an asset;
  • Excellent
    attention to detail;
  • Strong
    communication skills
  • Skilled
    photographer and or videographer
  • Excellent
    command of photo and video editing software such as Adobe Photoshop and
    Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro.
  • Strong
    command of social media management platforms like Hootsuite.
  • Ability
    to work independently
  • Excellent
    time management and organizational skills;
  • Demonstrated
    interest in communications for charitable or not-for-profit organizations
  • Experience
    in working with an Oxfam campus group or local grassroots community group
    an asset
  • Web
    development skills an asset

Educational
requirements:

Post-secondary
Relevant
fields of academic study:
Photography, Videography,
Communications, Social sciences (particularly Development Studies, Women’s
Studies, Political Science, Sociology, Anthropology) Leadership Studies, Event
Planning, or Volunteer Management.
This
position will enable students to develop a more nuanced and practical
understanding of how civil society organizations work to promote women’s
rights, social justice, and poverty eradication. Further, the position will
provide students with in-depth knowledge and familiarity with one of the
largest social justice organizations worldwide, with a presence in over 90
countries. Additionally, students will develop tangible skills pertaining to
event planning, communications, network-building, and information system
management.
Supervision/mentoring
plan:
The
Youth and Community Outreach Officer and E-Communications Officer will work
together to support the successful applicant. Together we’ll hold an initial
meeting to provide training and in-depth information regarding Oxfam Canada and
the role of the Youth and Volunteer Multimedia Coordinator. During this
training, the objectives of the role will be outlined. Weekly meeting will be
established to check in, develop a weekly work plan, assess workload, ask
questions, and feedback. As this position is in the same office as the Youth
and Community Outreach Officer and E-Communications Officers, the student will
be invited to approach their supervisors with any questions throughout their
placement.
