Description:
The Research Coordinator would be working to develop a master plan for integrating research into OPIRG Ottawa’s operations and launch a pilot project in 2012. This would include researching strategies that have already been developed by looking at other PIRGs and public interest organizations, preparing preliminary reports and eventually proposals on the direction for a research program at OPIRG Ottawa for the Board Directors. Based on guidance from the Board, s(he) must continue on to develop criteria, application forms, evaluation methods, end goals, etc.
Once a framework for a research program is developed, the implementation phase will begin with a partial pilot project. The successful candidate will be responsible to coordinate such a project with other OPIRG volunteers and it will include a lot of outreach and logistical work.
Qualifications:
• Keen ability to network with different stakeholders (University administration, professors, community, staff and Board)
• Able to provide clear and concise reports
• Knowledge of University of Ottawa campus and academic structures
• Ability to work under a Board of Directors and associated challenges (writing proposals, flexible timelines, receiving and incorporating feedback, persistence to follow through)
• Very good organizational, interpersonal and communication skills;
• Ability to work independently and contribute effectively in a team environment;
• Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines;
• Proven ability to be highly motivated, self-directed, flexible and to adapt quickly to new and challenging situations;
• Core understanding of various social, economic and environmental justice issues are important to this position. This includes familiarity with anti-oppression work and dynamics of power and privilege in our society.
• Experience doing own research is an asset; (going through Ethics approval, writing grant proposals, designing a research plan, conducting field work and reporting etc.)
• Bilingualism a strong asset (French and English reading and oral comprehension)
