poor are farmers, representing the largest and most uniform group of poor
people in the world. One Acre Fund is a growing social enterprise in Kenya,
Rwanda, Burundi, and Tanzania that is innovating a new way of helping farm
families to achieve their full potential. Instead of giving handouts, One Acre
Fund invests in farmers to generate a permanent gain in farm income. We provide
farmers with a “service bundle” that includes education, finance,
seed and fertilizer, and market facilitation. Our program is proven impactful –
every year, we weigh thousands of harvests and measure 50-100% average gain in
farm income per acre. We have laser-like focus on generating better lives for
the people that we serve.

Job
Description

One Acre Fund is a
rapidly-growing organization, with new innovations, partnerships and programs
being implemented daily. As our organization and internal leadership team grow,
we are increasingly in need of professional support in the area of
administration and special projects. These are important tasks to the
organization, and our leadership team often find themselves doing these things
personally.

We are seeking
someone to work closely with the founder and the other General Partners to
provide administration support. The Executive Assistant to the General Partners
will have an important role in ensuring the top leadership of the organization
have the time they need to focus on organization priorities and have the
resources they need to be effective and efficient leaders. The Role will
roughly divide into two parts; 1.Executive Assistant, administrative tasks and
2. Special Project/blue sky research. While the initial role will be structured
as an executive assistant, this is a career track role. We are seeking someone
to eventually become an administration officer, and possibly the chief
administration officer at some point. Example duties:

Executive Assistant
to the General Partners:

  • Administrative
    Management: Setting up conference calls, Keep calendars of key
    outward-facing staff, Tracking and submitting financial reports, etc.
  • Special
    Project Research and Analysis: These are often longer projects ranging
    from 1 week+ in time and involve Researching industry best practices,
    comparing service providers, conducting first-stage reviews of new
    systems/product, and exploring a new strategic direction for the
    organization or a new idea pitched by the General Partners.
  • Management
    of In-Country Leadership Assistants: Managing assistants to ensure they
    are clear on their responsibilities, able to complete tasks on time and at
    high standards, and providing them with professional development opportunities.
  • Administrative
    Trouble Shooting: Anticipating, preventing, and solving administrative
    problems that derail General Partner work including: Technology support
    and back up travel coordination
  • Leadership
    Accessibility: Ensuring General Partners have the resources they need to
    be able to communicate and interact with staff at all levels of the
    organization and identifying new and creative ways for staff to feel
    connected to the General Partners.
  • Internal
    Communication: Identifying industry best practices and best practices from
    within OAF and working with country leadership to implement these on the
    ground.
  • Potential
    Partnership Identification: Identifying service providers or local NGO’s
    that have services, products, or program models that would fit in with the
    OAF program.

Possible promotion
to Administration Officer with good performance:

  • Initiation
    of Projects: Similar duties to the above, but an administration officer
    would largely anticipate needs, and initiate his or her own projects,
    proactively.
  • Development
    of Staff: An administration officer would invest significant time in the
    development of their staff. Example staff include construction manager,
    security manager, vehicle manager, assistant pool.

Qualifications

We are looking for

profiles:

  • An
    exceptional young professional with 1 to 5+ years of work experience, and
    a demonstrated long-term passion for international development. The ideal
    candidate is looking to jump start their career through this role, and is
    excited by the idea of growing into a career at OAF by expanding this
    role.
  • An
    exceptional mid-career professional with 2 to 5+ years of work experience
    in administration, and a demonstrated long-term passion for international
    development. The ideal candidate sees him/herself as an administrative
    whiz and can take this job and identify new and innovative ways to assist
    the General Partners.

This is not a short
stint in Africa – this is a competitive posting for a career-track role. Only

    experience, or successful entrepreneurial experience (e.g. starting a
    field program, leading a conference, starting a business, solid Peace

    undergraduate background (please include GPA and test scores on your
    resume)
  • Prior
    administration experience is ideal
  • Humility

  • A
    willingness to commit to living in rural areas of East Africa for at least
    two years – this is a long-term, career-track role
  • Language:
    English required, and French highly preferred

Compensation

Starts modest.
However, this is a career-track role with fast raises for performance, paying a
meaningful salary for long-term placement in developing nations.
