Job Description
The Design Coordinator will
manage the design of all OAF’s architectural and design projects and ensure
they are accurately illustrated and delivered on schedule to implementation
teams and to high standards of quality.
The Design Coordinator will
also manage the administrative tasks of the Infrastructure department.
Roles and responsibilities:
Administrative Duties:
  • The
    Design Coordinator will ensure all of the infrastructure department work
    is properly filed and documented;
  • The
    Design Coordinator will ensure all communication between the
    infrastructure team and with other teams is answered and documented;
  • The
    Design Coordinator will assist the department lead in training the team in
    the production of drawings illustrating the design works.
Design duties:
  • The
    Design Coordinator will assist in collecting all design data to ensure designs
    responds to their environment (including but not limited to cultural and
    social context, wind, rain and sun patterns, availability of materials and
    labor)
  • The
    Design Coordinator will coordinate the production of drawings and other
    technical documents to help communicate with the various project
    stakeholders and ensure that implementation accurately follows design
  • The
    Design Coordinator will report regularly to the department lead on the
    progress on design and drawings;
  • The
    Design Coordinator will coordinate with the technical director to ensure
    the architectural design details align with structural details and are
    both practical and cost-effective;
  • The
    Design Coordinator will work with construction site teams during the
    design phase to ensure the designs are practical and cost-effective;
    he/she will also work with the same teams to update designs and drawings
    to respond to any unexpected situation during construction.
  • From
    drawings illustrating project designs, the Design Coordinator will assist
    in the preparation cost estimates and procurement lists.

Qualifications 
  • Bachelor
    Degree in Architecture or other design fields;
  • At
    least 2 years of experience managing construction projects, with
    involvement in all aspect of the project (Design, cost estimates,
    scheduling, implementation, maintenance);
  • Ability
    and willingness to work under pressure and overtime on urgent projects as
    necessary;
  • Fluency
    in spoken and written Kinyarwanda, and English. Knowledge of French will
    be an advantage;
  • Advanced
    computer literacy in Microsoft Office Suite and Internet and email
    applications
  • Advanced
    skills in Adobe Creative Suite and Computer Aided Design (CAD) programs
