The Role
Reporting to our
Senior Manager, Public Affairs, you will be working within the wider Policy and
Advocacy Team, this role will be assisting with the development and
implementation of public affairs materials and strategies.
To be successful in
this role you will need to be a talented writer with a keen interest in Federal
and State political issues, as well as knowledge of the media. You will use
your knowledge to research, write and issue media releases and speeches on
behalf of NSW Business Chamber. This role will also see you actively
promote the activities of the Chamber through traditional as well as social
media channels.
The Key
Responsibilities
Public
Affairs
- Research,
write and issue media releases and speeches on behalf of the NSW and
Sydney Business Chambers. - Draft
media comments (proactive and reactive) on behalf of the NSWBC and SBC. - Act as
the media spokesperson when required, including live radio and television
interviews. - Manage
the monthly reporting of media coverage and associated analysis of that
data in historical terms. - Provide
information for the Senior Manager, Public Affairs report to Council and
Board papers. - Identify
and seize opportunities to actively promote the activities of the NSW
Business Chamber (events, policy and advocacy, services) through
traditional media and social media channels.
Policy
- Working
with the Policy team in developing and communicating high quality and
timely policy advocacy briefings, analysis and advice on key urban affairs
issues. - Where
required, work with the Policy team to oversee and contribute to the
preparation of research projects and their accompanying advocacy strategy.
The
Requirements
- At
least 3-5 years’ experience in Public Affairs in either a commercial,
government or non-for-profit environment. - Tertiary
qualifications in a relevant discipline – e.g. Journalism, Communications,
Politics, Business or Public Relations. - Ability
to exercise significant levels of initiative, judgement and political nous
to make timely, confident and well informed decisions. - Advanced
written and oral communication skills that allow confidence to cold call
media for story placement and to pitch ideas, as well as to be quoted ‘on
the record’. - Strong
negotiation, networking and influencing skills. - Strong
attention to detail and the ability to see tasks through to conclusion. - Ability
to maintain confidentiality required by the position.
