EXECUTIVE
DIRECTOR

The NDG Food Depot
strives to eliminate hunger in a manner that ensures dignity, community
engagement and the development of human potential. Through our emergency food
basket service we distribute fresh, healthy food to over 600 community members
each week. We understand that hunger and poverty are complex problems, so we
are engaged in other food-based projects that address their systemic causes and
consequences.

We are currently
seeking an Executive
Director

for our organization. This position requires a candidate who
possesses strong leadership skills, vision, and experience in both human
resources and non-profit management. The successful applicant will have a
well-rounded understanding of food security issues as well as a strong desire
to support the d

evelopment of a vibrant and inclusive community food hub. The
Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors and is
responsible for overseeing all
activities of the NDG Food Depot.

As the fluently
bilingual spokesperson for the organization, the qualified candidate must have
a strong, professional background in management, administration and
communications, be self-motivated and capable of working autonomously. A
university degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience is
required. A creative, engaging, results oriented and dynamic approach to
community development – that is sensitive to the needs of a very diverse
population – is essential to the position of Executive Director.

  1. A. Responsibilities
    of this Position (not limited to the below)
  2. 1. Organizational
    Development,
    Operations,
    Program Planning & Management

a) Develop a written
operational plan that incorporates goals and objectives that work towards the
strategic direction of the organization.

b) Establish the
year-to-year objectives for programming & staff, budget required to actual
plan.

c) Develop community
partnerships that support a holistic community centre focused around healthy
food.

d) Oversee the
efficient and effective day-to-day operations of the organization.

  1. 2. Human
    Resources, Team Building & Organizational Development

a) Manage 7
employees, 3 Action PAAS participants, 2 Inter-agir work program participants,
2 student interns, 2 Summer Students, & hundreds of volunteers.

b) Help create a
vibrant and engaging culture at the NDG Food Depot that supports overall
mission.

a) Recruit,
interview, select and train employees that have the right technical and
personal abilities to help further the organization’s mission.

c) Determine
staffing requirements & recommend to board.

d) Provide guidance
in establishing and achieving program objectives by clearly defining
responsibilities within job descriptions

e) Oversee the
implementation of the human resources policies, procedures and practices
including the development of job descriptions for all staff

  1. 3. Accounting,
    Administration & Finance

b) Prepare and
update budget – with guidance of the Treasurer of the board

c) Track Payables
& Receivables and food budget – and work with Administrative Assistant to
ensure payments are made to suppliers

d) Manage Expense
& Revenue tracking – regular communication with Director of Development
around incoming Revenue from funders

e) Oversee banking,
accounting liaison, payroll, building repairs and maintenance

  1. 4. Governance
    and Leadership

a) Link between
staff & board – intending to create a fruitful relationship between the two

b) Participating
with the Board of Directors in executing its strategic plan.

c) Writing a monthly
ED report for the Board outlining all existing projects and progress as well as
staff recap and any suggestions.

d) Supporting the
other members of the team as needed and contribute to overall mission of the
Food Depot

e) Helping create a
vibrant and engaging culture at the NDG Food Depot.

  1. 5. Donor
    relations , Fundraising & Special Events

a) Centraide –
complete yearly report, host Centraide volunteer groups, conduct speaking
engagements

b) Logistical
planning for all fundraising events at the Depot

c) Media
representative for the Depot (along with the Director of Development)

d) Occasional press
releases & media interviews

e) Individual
bi-annual Mail-out (Newsletter & Annual Report)

f) Annual Report
preparation in collaboration with the Director of Development,

g) Donor calls &
Thank you cards, special thank you letters to Foundations

  1. 6. Public
    Relations and Community Partnerships

a) Oversee all
aspects of the Depot’s public messaging, including relations with various
stakeholders and media outlets

b) Assure that the
organization, its mission and programs are consistently presented in a positive
image

c) Participate in
coalition and round table discussions. Establish sound working relationships
and cooperative arrangements with community groups and organizations

  2. 1. Education A
    university degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional
    experience is required

    to master new donor software. Ability to manage the implementation of a
    new system.

    5 or
    more years of progressive management experience
  1. 5. Working Conditions
    work a
    standard work week, but additionally will often work evening, weekends,
    and overtime hours to accommodate activities such as Board meetings and
    representing the organization at public events.
