be responsible for maintaining the ships’ combat systems which include radar,
sonar, navigation, combat data and fire control. At sea you will be the
engineering authority and be responsible for the vessel’s combat and
self-defence capabilities. On land your position includes duties such as combat
system trials as well as the training and management of sailors.
Another large aspect of your role as an Electronics Engineer is abreast of
combat system upgrades and developments. The Navy introduces new ships and
electronic systems on a regular basis so your job is constantly challenging and
changing. During times of updates and developments, you will be involved in
monitoring system performance, developing modifications, evaluating repair
schemes and supervising equipment trials.
Electronics Engineer roles are open to both females and males.
Pay and Benefits
You’ll be paid while you undertake your training, and receive free healthcare and
subsidised accommodation. Upon completion of training, you’ll enjoy a starting
salary package of approximately $74,499 p.a. as well as a generous
superannuation contribution.
Employment Location
All Officers will serve in fleet units and shore establishments around
Australia on a rotational basis. Individual preferences for posting location
will be taken into account where possible.
Entry Requirements
You must be aged between 17 and 50 years of age and an Australian citizen.
Additional age, medical and fitness guidelines may apply.
Education Requirements
To be eligible for admission into the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA),
you must have completed year 12 with an entrance rank high enough to qualify
for entry into the relevant degree program.
Graduate –
The minimum requirement is a four year engineering degree permitting graduate
membership to Engineers Australia (EA) as a professional engineer.
You may commence the selection process if you are in the final year of a four
year Bachelor of Engineering Degree and can present your completed third year
academic transcript. Your appointment will be subject to successful completion
of the final semester of your Engineering Degree.
Undergraduate –
You may commence the selection process if you have completed at least 6 months
of a four year Bachelor of Engineering Degree and can present your first
Semester academic transcript.
All Electronics Engineer applicants must undertake a four year university
degree permitting graduate membership to Engineers Australia as a professional
engineer.
