National Theatre School of Canada

National Theatre School of
Canada / École nationale de théâtre du Canada

Established in Montreal in 1960, the National Theatre School of Canada (NTS) is
the leading professional training institution for theatre artists in the
country. As a centre of excellence in the field of theatre training, the NTS
offers programs of the highest quality in English and French to actors,
directors, designers, production specialists, and playwrights. The NTS has
developed its hard-earned international reputation by promoting pedagogical
practices tha

t embrace tradition while also championing invention, that place
equal value on both performance and creation, and that are constantly
questioned and adapted to today’s context. Our ambition is to remain a leading
centre of learning and experimentation that will help prepare young artists to
redefine the role of theatre in the 21st century. With a foundation of rigorous
training and a meaningful connection to the long tradition of theatre in
Canada, our graduates can become leaders in the field and to contribute to the
renewal of theatre in Canada. Numerous outreach programs, led by flagship
initiatives such as TEC (Theatre Engaging Communities), Horizon Diversité and
our participation in Les Journées de la culture, support future and actual
students in developing their talent and in creating meaningful bonds with
communities. In November 2013, the National Theatre School of Canada officially
launched its strategic plan Horizon 2020 – The Future Intersects with the
Present. This plan serves as a blueprint for all of our activities, in
particular how we communicate with the world, and offers us a bold set of
guiding principles to take us into the next era of our development.
