The farm is encouraging anyone who wishes to do a horticulture apprenticeship
to come and join us. Hours are somewhat flexible but mostly we will follow the
guidelines from the apprenticeship manual and introduce the candidate to all
aspects of certified organic farming, including bees and poultry. These
positions should begin in the near future s
o that candidates have the opportunity
to learn care of crops for the fall, winter and spring, including orchard and
berry plants. Our first undertaking will be the seeding and development of our
fall greens crop as both indoor and field crop.
S.O.I.L (Stewards of Irreplaceable Living) Apprentices
Nanoose Edibles works with the S.O.I.L Apprenticeship program and welcomes
candidates who wish to work and learn about sustainable, organic
production. The program is mostly unpaid and is directed at people who
wish to equip themselves to become career farmers.
The program comes with a study guide and throughout the tenure of the
apprentice the farmer and the apprenticeship will work through all tasks
associated with running a productive farm.
All employees, whether paid or unpaid, with the willingness to work, study and
to learn about growing organic crops have the opportunity to move into
management positions or to manage their own farm. Lorne and Barbara
believe that it would take a minimum of two years for a would-be farmer to be able
to stand on their own.

Every applicant must have a keep interest in organic farming combined with the
experience and/or training in organic agriculture. If you are interested
