DIRECTOR,
TECHNICAL SERVICES
MAIN PURPOSE
OF JOB
To lead, plan and coordinate all
activities associated with technical
operations (production) and projects on a group-wide basis.
To provide direction
and support to multi-disciplinary teams and multiple commodities, having
responsibility over engineers, mining activities, technical services and
project development.
To coordinate
technical oversight with other disciplinary oversight processes (Finance, HR).
Requirements
DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate
in the development of organisational strategy and annual plans and
budgets. - Develop
the operational plan for technical services in line with overall business
objectives. - Provide
technical expertise in the development of plans (operational and projects)
and review operations and technical projects. - Provide
direction and support for operations and projects, and provide oversight
on consultant activities. - Oversee
management teams of subsidiaries, joint-ventures and projects. Ensure the
teams are appropriately staffed and deliver against agreed plans and
budgets. - Provide
leadership to the technical services team and guidance to subsidiary and
joint-venture management teams, with respect to technical operations and
projects. - Coordinate
communication with joint-venture partners and other stakeholders with
respect to key projects and monitoring of operations and production. - Ensure
that safety, health, environment and quality aspects of all operations
across the group are to standard. - Develop
policies and procedures to ensure compliance with business imperatives and
relevant legislative requirements. - Review
Group wide operational budgets and ensure level of quality and alignment
with Group objectives. - Manage
the departmental budget and sign of on Group Company operating budgets.
COMPETENCY
REQUIREMENTS
- A
proven track record of successful management at executive level with a
proven track record in managing operations and projects. - Superior
understanding and proficiency at running mining operations or managing
large and capital intensive mining projects. - Knowledge
of all types of technical services. - Good
business and financial acumen. - Strong
leadership skills and the ability to think strategically and analytically
with excellent problem-solving and negotiation skills. - Good
interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) with excellent
presentation skills. - Strong
people management, coaching and mentoring skills. - Good
project management skills.
JOB
SPECIFICATION
QUALIFICATIONS
- Engineering
degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in Mining and/or Metallurgy. - Mine
Manager’s Qualification (open cast or underground mining) or Metallurgical
Manager’s Qualification. - Project
Management Qualification would be beneficial. - Professional/
Certified Engineer Certificate preferred.
EXPERIENCE
- 15 – 25
years’ experience in mining industry. - At
least 5 – 8 years’ experience at senior management level (E-Band) - Direct
experience at General Manager level or equivalent in operations management
(Mining or Metallurgical) - Specific
experience in both underground and open cast mining environments. - Specific
experience in 2 or more commodity types e.g. (Gold/ Base Metals/ Coal/
Diamonds) - Experience
working in a number of countries and with diverse management teams - Experience
in managing large (US$ 500M – US$2Bn) complex mining or metallurgical
projects involving multidisciplinary teams
