Description: Microsystems Engineering program at
Masdar Institute of Science and Technology inAbu Dhabiinvites applications for
Masters and PhD program from students interested in research in the following
areas of photonics:+ Silicon photonics and integrated optics;
Electronic-photonic integrated circuits; on-chip optical interconnects; III-V
photonics; Optical sensors; Chalcogenide glass-based infrared light emitting
devices; Fiber Optics; Tunable lasers. Graduate students can work on design, fabrication,
and/or characterization, regarding on their preferences. Masdar Institute is an
independent, not-for-profit, research driven, graduate institution. It is
developed in cooperation with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
in the USA to follow the standards for research and education similar to MIT.
The institute is located in Abu Dhabiin Masdar City, a carbon neutral and a
zero waste sustainable city to be powered solely by alternative energy. During
their Masters and PhD studies, students are taking classes and pursuing
research in their selected field. A thesis is submitted at the end of the
program. While peers and faculty represent over 30 different nationalities, all
instruction is conducted in English. The institute is working with local
accreditation entities to launch its PhD program as early as January 2013.
