Take a front seat role in the family planning and reproductive health revolution in Uganda. Marie Stopes Uganda (MSU) is the largest and fasting growing organization of its type in the country, preparing for a period of rapid expansion with support from the UK and US governments. We aim to contribute 15 points to Uganda’s contraceptive prevalence rate by 2015, saving and improving many thousands of Ugandan lives. We are looking for a proactive, experienced and strategically-minded individual, to ensure delivery of MSU’s wide array of multi-donor projects, including its combined $38 million 5-year LTM family planning programme. This is a senior management position.

Job Title: Community Health Worker-Manager
Reporting to the Operations Director

Leading the Community Health Worker Service Delivery Channel at MSU, the Community Health Worker Manager’s (CHW-M) main role is to facilitate the delivery of Short Term Family planning methods through CHWs network, ensuring that all the activities relating to this Channel are well managed in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures, Donor compliance regulations, deadlines, contractual targets and budgets. The key deliverable will be the creation of a fully functional, well supervised, monitored and documented CHW Family Planning P delivery network. This person is expected to be able to interface comfortably with key external stakeholders (MoH, implementing partners, Donors, Administrative leaders, Health Facility staff especially at the District level), other service Delivery channel managers (Social Franchising, Clinics, Outreach, Social Marketing), as well as MSU directors and managers. The CHW-M will be required to have district level engagements.

The CHW-M will sit on MSU’s Senior Operations Team and the Medical Advisory Team. The CHW-M will lead a team of CHW Coordinators that will be working in various regions of the country.

It is particularly important that the post holder is able to sustain a close and collaborative partnership with the rest of the Operations team (both at support and field locations), to facilitate effective implementation of the MSU programme. The post holder should as well be able to work in close liaison with Research, Monitoring & Evaluation team to ensure evidence based programming and enable the adjustment of the activities depending on the R, M & E findings. The holder will be required to liaison regularly with the project, R, M & E teams to ensure on track performance of KPIs

The post holder will be required to have at least 5 years of experience working with districts and communities and should have good managerial skills and experience. The post involves extensive national travel.

External Relations
• In liaison with the External Relations manager and Operations Director, represent MSU in meetings with external stakeholders especially at district level, building a strong network to present MSU evidence, project successes and learning.

Skills and Experience
• University Degree or Health Sciences or its equivalent
• Knowledge of Clinical Health, Family Planning, Community Outreach and Social Marketing
• Proven excellent technical oral, written, and editing abilities; ability to present and write influentially for multiple audiences
• Ability to work well with others in team environments; must be able to satisfy stakeholders; should be able to work in deadline driven/results orientated atmospheres
• Advocacy skills: able to influence stakeholders through effective communication in a demanding external environment.
• At least 5 years’ experience managing Community/District level projects, with at least 3 years’ of Middle level experience in management.
• Previous experience working with CHWs is an added advantage.
