Malawi Union of the Blind is in the process of implementing a project on
preventive maintenance of assistive devices for persons with Blindness such as
Perkins Braillers and embosses. The organisation is therefore looking for
a well qualified person to fill the post of the Field Coordinator, The duty
station will be Malawi union of the Blind Offices at Chiwembe in Blantyre,

Reporting to the Executive Director, Malawi union of the blind
Facilitate the development and implementation of maintenance of Perkins,
Braillers and Braille embossers in order to promote access to quality,
education for children with Blindness in resource centres, Transcription of
Braille documents from Braille to print and print to Braille, editing and
formatting of Braille, using Duxurbury Braille Translation Software (DBT),
Coordinate the arrangements for the planned repair technician training
workshops to ensure that all the activities are carried out according to the
project plan, Monitor the implementation of activities and support technical
evaluation of the persons Braille maintenance training, Facilitate the
development of the training materials, Write and submit regular progress
reports to the Malawi Union of the Bind Executive Director, Offer sound
professional advice on the implementation of the project, Able to understand
and respond to the project administrative, operational and reporting
procedures,
Support Malawi Union of the blind in liaising with govt and stakeholders
on the rollout of the project and advocacy, Support Malawi Union of the blind
in doing advocacy for inclusion, persons with blindness and access to relevant
assistive devices, Complete valid and timely data collection from the field and
any other feedback information required by management
Knowledge and experience in the field of maintenance of Perkins Braillers and
assistive technology for persons with blindness, Experience in offering
training in Perkins Brailler maintenance and talking computers using jaws,
Kurzwell and Zoom Text software, strong leadership skills in project
management, Strategic thinker and willing to take up new challenges, Proven
leadership and a team building skills, Good command of English and high level
of written and report writing skill, Diplomatic and decisive, and be able to
liaise with decision makers, Able to organise, chair and lead meetings, High
proficiency in MS Office package – Word, Excel and Power Point
Diploma In Information Technology, MSCE with credit in English and Maths,
certificate in Computerised Braille Transcription, software and hardware
management, Professional experience in Perkins Brailler maintenance and
Computerised Grade II Braille proficiency, Minimum of 3 yrs experience in
Monitoring and supervision of Perkins Brailler Maintenance and Braille
Materials production, Experience in project management, teaching and training
Special Needs Education professionals for not less than 2 yrs
