active urban forest stewards through accessible, on-the-ground programs. We are
currently seeking a Community Outreach Assistant for a summer student
employment position. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional
organizational and communication skills, demonstrate initiative and creativity
and have a passion for environmental issues. They will be an independent,
motivated team player. The position will offer an excellent opportunity to gain
skills and experience working with a non-profit organization that engages the
public in creative ways.
Responsibilities:
Reporting
to the Program Manager and working closely with other staff and volunteers, the
Community Outreach Assistant is responsible for:

- Assisting
with the recruitment and support of volunteers in LEAF’s Adopt-a-Tree
Programs - Assisting
with the coordination and delivery of community events and workshops for
the Adopt-a-Tree Programs - Assisting
with event coordination for the annual Leslieville Tree Festival - Taking
part in Community Outreach Events - Collecting
and entering data from program participants - Providing
general administrative support as needed - Report
writing
Qualifications
The
successful applicant will demonstrate, through a combination of experience,
education and/or training the following key skills and assets:

- Currently
enrolled in university or college – programs in urban forestry,
environmental studies or related field preferred - Excellent
verbal and written communication skills - Extremely
strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and highly effective
time-management, as well as the ability to multi-task and work to
deadlines - Ability
to work in an independent, self-directed manner, while coordinating with
and complimenting a broader staff and volunteer team - Ability
to be proactive, creative, innovative and solutions-oriented - Experience
working with or volunteering for a not-for-profit organization an asset

is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
