- Keepers
of the Athabasca is an Indigenous led not-for-profit environmental society,
founded in 2006. Our Vision: Guided by both indigenous Elders’ Traditional
Knowledge and western science, the Keepers of the Athabasca are First Nations,
Métis, Inuit, environmental groups, and watershed citizens working together for
the protection of water, land, air, and all living things today and tomorrow in
the Athabasca River watershed. Our Mission: to unite the peoples of the
Athabasca River and Lake Watershed to secure and protect water and watershed
lands for ecological, social, cultural and community health and well being.
Responsibilities
of Coordinator
of Coordinator
- Liaising
with First Nations, Métis and other Environmental NGOs (ENGOs) working on
tar sands and water related issues in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Northwest
Territories. - Website
maintenance, Social Media updates - Communications
with membership, including newsletters, and attracting new members - Planning
and Coordination of events such as conferences, workshops and community
meetings - Supporting
the Board to build organizational capacity
Qualifications
- Experience
in website maintenance, social media, and other communications - Experience
hosting and/or planning events - Knowledge
of, and personal connections or contacts with Indigenous individuals and
groups in Alberta - Knowledge
of an Indigenous language will be an asset - Post-Secondary
education will be an asset
