School psychologist
typically work with students, teachers, families and school administrators to
help and ensure that students are able to adjust/cope with the demands of
learning and social environment and succeed academically, socially and
emotionally
Contact with students –
Provide leadership for guidance and counselling system in preschool, primary
and secondary schools, Responsible for assessing and evaluating students for
such things as learning disabilities, social, emotional and mental problems,
Organise treatment plans together with the school social worker, Participate in
case management meeting with social worker and the school counsellors with
support-supervision of the psychosocial coordinator, Collaboration or work with
parents and guardians, To help students develop resiliency, confidence and
self-esteem, Help parents and guardians understand their children’s educational
needs in the formed parent-teachers association (PTA) and school management
committee (SMC) links, Make intervention plans with parents on home life
problems, such as abuse, Provide information and reporting procedures for all
cases of Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) for girls and all
separated and unaccompanied children (UASC) and/or in consultation with child
protection service provided by Plan Malawi in Dzaleka Refugee Camp, Liaise with
psychosocial coordinator on training students, parents and teachers about how
to manage crisis situations and triggers of traumatic memory-problems, Map out
links to psychosocial community interventions with psychosocial coordinator and
community leaders on social problems, such as bullying, Complement school
learning with teachers, Participate in staff meetings in creating pleasant and
effective learning environment for children, Contribute in committee for
discipline systems for unruly students or work out misunderstandings between
students and teachers, Collaboration and support and work closely with school
administrators, social worker and psychosocial coordinator, Provide
professional advice on how to create outreach programs, Organise referral for
service and intervention needed to other implementing partners, (IP’s) in the
camp, Coordinate needed interventions outside of the camp, Contribute in the
update and improvement of school policies, Provide monthly, 6 months and annual
reports to the School Administrator and Psychosocial Coordinator
Graduate of a Bachelor
of Science in Psychology and must have earned academic units and/or trainings
in the areas of developmental, educational and counselling psychology, Master
degree holder in Psychology is an advantage, Preferably has worked in a school
setting and experience in special education assessment, educational
interventions and counselling, About 2 to 4 yrs experiences in psychological
testing and evaluation of learning needs of students, education intervention,
counselling and mental health service
