Subject:
This thesis will be developed in the scope of the EU-funded project SCOTT
(Secure Connected Trustable Things). The project intends to improve the
features of security, trustability, dependability, and autonomy of IoT. UPM
tasks are mainly related to railway use cases. The PhD thesis will improve the
state of the art in aspects like secured communications and QoS for highly
reliable applications of WSNs (Vehicle to Vehicle and Vehicle to Infrastructure
in the railway domain). The main contributions of this work will be done in the
lower layers, mainly from the hardware of the IoT nodes, up to the MAC layer.

Eligibility: The following criteria must
be met in order for applicants to be eligible for the scholarship.
- Candidates
should have a Master Degree (MSc or equivalent) in Electrical and/or
Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent. Candidates
must have taken courses in the following areas: embedded systems, wireless
communications, and electronic design. In addition to this, the applicant
must be able to work well in a diverse group, comfortable giving and
receiving constructive criticism, and have strong abilities for critical
thinking and structured work. The successful candidate will be expected to
take an active role in advising undergraduate students. These competencies
are as important as the technical qualifications. - Excellent
and proven skills in spoken and written English are required. Basic level
of the Spanish language is welcome.
