In line with the Section 46 of the Electoral Act of 2010 (as amended) which mandated the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) to publish “Notice of Polls” for all election not later than 14 days before elections, INEC has circulated information regarding the 2019 general elections across all its various offices across the country.
The “Notice of Poll” was posted yesterday 2nd January, 2019 at INEC head office and all the various offices across the country. This action of INEC dispelled the doubt of many political parties and individuals who had doubted the commencement of election on proposed date for the general elections.
The “Notice of Polls” documents marked EC 06 D confirmed that the Presidential and National Assembly election will commence up by 8:00 a.m. on 16th February, 2019 as scheduled, while the governorship and State House of Assembly election will be holding on 2nd March, 2019.
The “Notice of Polls” document gave insight into some of the conditions required for voting. Among others, it specifies that to, voters are eligible to vote only at the voting centre where they were registered, stressing that only voters whose names appear on the voters’ register at the polling centres and are in possession of a valid voters’ card which is verifiable by INEC’s card readers are eligible to vote in the general elections.
