CIP is seeking to recruit a Driver for its RAC Project in Dar es Salaam Tanzania. This is a Nationally
Recruited Staff (NRS) position that is managed by the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) office
Description:
Specific duties will include:
• Keep vehicle clean
• Operate vehicle in a safe and courteous manner and always follow road safety standards
• Regularly inspect the vehicle and regularly take it for general maintenance services as specified in
Manufacturer’s manual in order to keep the vehicle in good condition
• Advise project manager or administrative assistant and staff in due course on minor or major repairs as soon as a problem is detected
• Take vehicle for routine servicing as specified in the manual, and incase it is necessary with approval from IITA ‘Dar-es-Salaam office,
• Drive the vehicle taking project staff and partners for fieldwork as need arises;
• Assist in the delivery of mail, equipment, supplies, documents to partners and other institutions as required
• Update the vehicle logbook on a daily basis with the trips undertaken indicating start and end kms, the trip description and the responsible officer
• Send copy of vehicle logbook at the end of every month to the Administrator/Accounts Assistant for computing and charging mileage costs to appropriate costs centers,
• Liaise regularly with staff, project manager and/ or administrative assistant on weekly activities
• Report accidents to the IITA office in Tanzania, RAC team in Tanzania and Nairobi CIP office, and the police as soon as they occur.
• Assist in any other activities as needed
Requirements:
Professional Requirements
• Class C or above current and valid driving permit
• Five years of proven, accident-free, vehicle driving
• At least completed secondary school education
• Age limit at least 30 years
• Written and spoken Kiswahili and English
• Prior experience driving 4X4 vehicles in city streets and rural rough roads in Tanzania will be appreciated
General Information
The initial contract for this position is one year renewable upon satisfactory performance. Salary and benefits tenable to this position are in line with those provided within IITA’s NRS scheme
