& feed purposes to farmers, feed processors, food processors and other
traders. Homestead Organics is a one-stop shop supplying famers with field and
garden seed, fertility and pest control products, livestock feed and
supplements, professional agronomic and livestock nutritional support, and
books and groceries.

The Field Crops Representative:
• Manages the Company’s grain marketing and trading programs by establishing
markets, designing marketing programs, establishing storage and logistical
supports, setting pricing models and price levels, and managing the Company’s
grain inventory and forecasts.
• Manages the quality specifications for grain crops and conducts quality
assurance activities.
• Sources, markets, and trades whole grains and grain products for the organic
food and feed markets.
• Acquires grain market intelligence for the Company by exchanging information
with buyers and growers, monitoring independent references, and attending trade
events.
• Covers food grade soybeans, feed grade soybeans, corn, and barley, various
types of wheat, oats, rye, peas, spelt, organic buckwheat, and conventional
buckwheat.
• Works with the Company’s agronomist and livestock nutritionist to provide
farmers with full service in crop marketing, crop inputs, feed ingredients, and
livestock production.
• Works with the Company’s plant managers to ensure the steady supply of grains
for processing and to secure customers and markets for whole grains processed
specifically at the Morrisburg plant.
• Supports the Company’s plant mangers in their local grain forecasts,
transactions, and quality assurance.
• Performs most or all of the activities related to his/her transactions:
negotiations, forward contracts, spot transactions, samples, scheduling,
logistics, documentation, traceability, bills from vendors, and invoices to
customers.
• Ensures that organic grain suppliers are certified organic and collects
organic certificates from suppliers.
• Prospects and develops new products, new sources, and new markets through
outreach and trade events.

Qualifications and skills:
• Strong verbal and written communication, presentation, and presentation
skills.
• Strong skills in collaboration, planning, forecasting.
• Strong skills in customer relations, sales, negotiating, networking,
relationships, listening, and empathy.
• Strong ability to work with minimal supervision, assume responsibilities,
take appropriate initiatives, handle stress, solve problems.
• Fluency in English and French, verbal and written.
• Effectively manage a large amount of information, retain details, handle
multiple tasks, priorities, and deadlines.
• Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, business management,
Internet, and presentation software.
• Ability to accept supervision and constructive criticism, and ability to
learn from mistakes.
• A college or university diploma in the agri-food sector, and at least 2 years
of relevant experience.
• Strong knowledge of agricultural commodities and commerce.

Work Conditions:
• Works mostly from the Company’s office in Morrisburg, and occasionally from a
home office.
• The work schedule typically is 40 hours per week with flexibility for peak
periods and occasional weekend work for travelling, trade shows, and public
events.
• Ability to be physically tolerant of grain and field dust.
• Although travelling is limited, the candidate must have a valid driver’s
license and a personal vehicle.

Compensation:
• Competitive wages will be discussed with the selected candidate based on
experience.
• Benefits include 2 weeks paid vacation per year (4% of paid time) and 6
days/year of paid personal or sick time off.
• After 3 months employment, the company provides a group health, life, and
disability insurance that is paid 50-50 by the company and the employees, once
the employee’s probationary period is successfully completed.
