About Hamilton Victory Gardens

The Hamilton Victory Gardens is a volunteer-based non-profit
charitable organiza

tion dedicated to alleviating hunger and food
insecurity in the greater Hamilton area by transforming empty city
lots into gardens, which become places of community, education and
growth. Hamilton Victory Gardens currently has 12 garden sites
throughout the city of Hamilton. All produce grown in these gardens by
volunteers is donated to local food banks and hot meal programs. A
site coordinator supervises and oversees volunteer participation at
each garden.

Hamilton Victory Gardens is currently looking for a dynamic,
multi-talented Operations Manager who will be able to support our
garden site coordinators and volunteers, develop and monitor
educational programming in the gardens, and manage the administrative
needs of the organization.

Primary Responsibilities
• Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the organization
• Develop planting and harvest plans for all 12 garden sites and
adjust as needed
• Support garden site coordinators by providing consistent guidance,
expertise, and administrative support
• Recruit volunteers through effective networking, events and community
outreach
• Financial reporting in compliance with best practices and grant
awarding organizations’ criteria
• Develop, implement & monitor educational programming in the gardens
• Maintain and develop relationships within the community of stakeholders
• Support fundraising efforts as needed

Skills
• The ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter who works well both
independently and as part of a team and is looking for a chance to
develop their leadership and management experience
• Ability to multi-task and handle a variety of challenges within a
dynamic and changing organization
• Excellent knowledge of urban agriculture (or gardening) and
demonstrated ability to grow a wide variety of vegetables from seed to
harvest and maintain soil health using organic methods. Previous
growing experience is preferred.
• Strong team leadership and interpersonal skills
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Flexibility to work evenings and Saturdays as needed
• Ability to commit for one or more years
• Ability to attend meetings in the community usually achieved by
access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s license

Education and experience
• Past experience as a Project Coordinator/Manager or other role
leading a program without direct supervision on a day-to-day basis
• Past experience involving community building within a not-for-profit
organization; experience with community building projects in the
greater Hamilton area is an asset
• Demonstrated ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds,
cultures, and perspectives
