Field Application Scientist, Flow Cytometry Job Vacancy in Paisley

This position is responsible for supporting commercial operations with pre-sale, field-based technical application support of a certain product segment, Flow Cytometry Systems. Responsibilities will include installation, demonstration and optimization of the company’s hardware, software and/or scientific products (reagents) and systems at customer sites. Identifies, develops and modifies manual and/or automated protocols to ensure products are optimized for performance. To provide answers to customer inquires concerning product and/or process specifications.

KEY FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
* Perform product demonstrations in the field.
* Conduct test procedures to diagnose and resolve product performance problems at installation, including product exchanges, optimization and/or more complex problem solving.
* Accompany Sales Representatives on sales calls in customer laboratories to provide technical and applications assistance in response to customer inquiries.
* Support conditional sales placements in the field through on-site visits and telephone communication.
* Provide start-up applications training to customers in their laboratories.
* Provide feedback on product performance in the field and suggested solutions and customer support regarding product performance problems. Partners with regional sales team in answering questions regarding technology platforms; team sells as appropriate.
*Demonstrate proper operating procedures with Applied Biosystems instrumentation and Invitrogen reagents.
* Keep abreast of current and potential activities in the territory on such items such as competitor products and user requirements.
* Assist the regional sales team in the development of accounts, including technical and feasibility meetings. Performs technical seminars and presentations that promote the use of the product.
* Identify major accounts and high potential accounts in order to assist the sales team in the development and penetration of these accounts.

Skills
* Requires knowledge and skills normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in Immunology, Biology, Physics, Engineering, Microbiology or Biochemistry, or equivalent experience.
* Requires 3-5 years of previous laboratory experience to include expertise in basic techniques related to Flow Cytometry products with related instruments and applications background.
* Experience in presenting technical materials in written and verbal form is critical with particular emphasis on interface experience with customers.
* Previous industrial experience in regard to the operation of cell biology equipment and associated reagents with flow cytometry experience preferred.

This includes site pre-qualification, installation and follow-on support for computer-based instrumentation. Experience in use of specific cell-based applications including assay optimization and development is also highly desirable.
* Demonstrated ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
* Demonstrated ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the scientific community.
* Demonstrated ability to write publications and reports that conform to prescribed style and format.
* Demonstrated ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of science or engineering and algebra.
* Demonstrated ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
* Demonstrated ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
* Demonstrated ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Valid driver’s license required.

Special conditions
Considerable amount of travel will be required throughout EMEA with focus on UK, Scandinavia and BeNeLux countries.
