Job Summary: The FHI 360 Youth Technical
Officer will be responsible for the increment of access to and utilization of
core services for orphaned and vulnerable children, youth and their caregivers.
The services to be strengthened include health, nutrition, education,
psychosocial well-being, and child protection (reducing abuse, exploitation and
neglect). The Youth Technical Officer will be responsible for the design,
implementation and technical quality of strategies and activities addressing
the health, economic, psychosocial and protection needs of vulnerable youth in
Uganda.

neglect). The Youth Technical Officer will be responsible for the design,
implementation and technical quality of strategies and activities addressing
the health, economic, psychosocial and protection needs of vulnerable youth in
Uganda.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities:
- Offer technical leadership in the development and implementation of
strategies, interventions and activities that address the holistic needs
of vulnerable youth in a youth-friendly manner, including their health,
education psychosocial, protection and economic strengthening needs. - Ensure that project strategies and activities addressing youth are
evidence-based and in line with state-of-the-art, globally-recognized best
practices; as well as aligned with Uganda’s National Youth Policy and
USAID’s Youth in Development Policy. - Make sure that the project engages youth in all stages of the
project to promote youth leadership and ensure that youth perspectives are
taken into consideration. - Ensure the project addresses the needs of highly vulnerable
sub-groups of youth, such as adolescent girls, HIV+ youth and youth with
disabilities. - Actively promote integration across a range of services for youth
to take a holistic, family-centered approach to improving their wellbeing. - Ensure all youth-focused strategies are gender-sensitive and
promote equitable programming. - Responsible for building capacity of staff, implementing partners,
government counterparts, and other stakeholders in working in
youth-related services under the project. - Monitor and maintain relevant manuals, training materials and
reports for youth interventions. - Actively contribute to work plans, quarterly and annual reports,
financial reports, and other reports and papers summarizing project
results and evidence. - Deliver presentations at professional meetings and conferences.
Qualifications,
Skills and Experience:
Skills and Experience:
- The ideal applicant for the USAID FHI 360 OVC program should
possess a Bachelor’s Degree (although a Master’s Degree is strongly
preferred) in youth development, social science or social work, or a
related field required. - Six or more years’ experience designing, implementing and
monitoring programs focused on addressing needs of youth in developing
countries. - Detailed working knowledge of adolescent development and positive
youth development - Demonstrated leadership qualities, depth and breadth of technical
and management expertise and experience, and strong interpersonal,
writing, and oral presentation skills. - Two or more years’ experience living or working in Uganda or
another developing country is preferable. - Past exposure and experience with a USG cooperative agreement preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to create and maintain effective working
relations with host country government personnel, stakeholders, NGO
partners, and international donor agencies. - Excellent interpersonal, writing and oral presentation skills in
English. - Possess the ability to work independently and manage a high volume
work flow.
