FH Association Rwanda (Food for the Hungry) IT Administrator Job Vacancy in Kigali, Rwanda

POSITION SUMMARY
As a member of Food for the Hungry’s Information Technology (FH IT) team, the IT Administrator will be responsible for supporting the staff of FH worldwide, as well as assisting daily operations of the IT infrastructure including but not limited to software installation and upgrades, system builds, and general end user and desktop support critical to the operations of FH. The primary focus will be on Africa, but tasks may affect staff worldwide.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Result Area #1 – Infrastructure Maintenance and Support (60%)
• Special projects that will be outlined by Manager of Field Operations and Infrastructure
• Provide support for international infrastructure development and maintenance.
• Provide IT support for FH staff worldwide including hardware, software, and connectivity issues, support and set up staff with computers, email/portal, other systems
• Backup the Manager of Field Operations and Infrastructure, Regional IT staff and field IT staff on projects, field visits, research and other requests. Test systems and applications to support TIS activities
• Provide quick response to users’ requests for help, diagnose problem, and provide resolution to staff worldwide using email, phone, remote access software or in-person when available. Focus will be on Africa.
• Ensure compliance with all software licensing agreements, monitoring software installation, and utilization to derive maximum value from the investment in software
• Provide support for business applications (Open Office, Microsoft Office, NetSuite, Google Apps, etc.)
• Provide support for non-English language variants of PC operating systems and business applications.
• Provide support in end-user security tools (e.g. VPN, anonymizers etc).

Key Result Area #2 – Suggest and document best practices for technology users (10%)
• Listen to understand users’ ministry goals and technical needs
• Suggest more effective ways for users to accomplish their ministry goals by utilizing technology
• Document and update technology policies, procedures and “How-To” guides
• Coordinate with African Country and Regional leadership to search out and test end user tools as they uniquely apply to FH Africa (as part of an agreed work plan with the Manager of Field Operations and Infrastructure).

Key Result Area #3 – Communicate to increase end-user awareness and ability to use technology tools and resources (15%)
• Ensure that all users have up-to-date (at hire and then annually, thereafter) information about how to utilize their technology most effectively
• Proactively engage with end-users, asking if they need help. Before closing a ticket, ask if there is anything else a user needs.
• Assist end users in finding appropriate training resources.
• Communicate in a cross-cultural and cross-language environment still achieving the goals above.

Key Result Area #4 – Represent the Africa Region in IT related Issues (15%)
• In coordination with Manager of Field Operations and Infrastructure and Africa Regional Leadership, establish IT related goals for the Africa Region
• Communicate IT issues unique to the Africa Region to the rest of IT team.
• Be a proponent for IT needs of the African Region to the Manager of Field Operations and Infrastructure and worldwide IT team.

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
• Must be able to work in a cross cultural environment. Must be able to communicate effectively with supervisor and staff stationed in US and other countries on a regular basis.
• Strong analytical ability to resolve complex technical issues in addition to effective communication and customer care skills
• Strong working knowledge of PC Software (Microsoft operating systems and application suites, email systems, etc. Expertise in Ubuntu Linux and Open Office Required.)
• Experience installing, upgrading PC hardware. Must be goal-orientated and pro-active with a relentless focus on results
• Must have demonstrated ability to quickly and independently get tasks done on short deadlines with attention to details and quality. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
• Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
• Ability to sit at a computer for 8 hours a day doing repetitive motions on a keyboard
• Ability to travel (domestically and internationally) up to 40% a year and to get visas for access to FH Africa countries where these are required.

EDUCATION
BS in Computer Science or related technology degree is preferred; or four years experience or directly related training; or a combination of education and experience.
