Education Development Center, Inc (EDC) Instructional Material Developers Jobs Vacancies in Kigali, Rwanda

Education Development Center, Inc (EDC) is recruiting for a new USAID funded project, the “Literacy, Language and Learning (L3) Initiative”.

L3 project will provide professional development to over 24,000 Primary one to four teachers in 2,838 schools, improve proficiency in English, Kinyarwanda and numeracy, train national mentors, and develop and
distribute teaching and learning materials to all government primary schools over a five year period.

EDC/L3 project would like to recruit four additional Instructional Material Developers to assist with the development of an integrated package of audio and print literacy (Kinyarwanda and English) and numeracy instructional material for primary 1 to 4. The Instructional Materials Developers report to Technical Director, L3 Initiative.

These positions are full time and located in Kigali.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Identify the key skills and competencies to be taught at each grade level and the appropriate sequence for introducing them;
• Identify the instructional strategies to be modeled at each grade level and for each of the three subject areas (Kinyarwanda, English and Mathematics);
• Identify the key social messages to be integrated into instructional materials;
• Conduct audience research to identify needs and priorities of teachers with respect to the identified strategies/skills/competencies/social messages as well as the contextual factors to consider when developing the materials;
• Develop student and teacher print and audio materials keyed to the scope and sequence that model the targeted instructional strategies;
• Formatively evaluate teachers’ and students’ use of the materials in authentic classroom situations;
• Participate in the development of print and video-based training materials for teachers on the use of the new materials and instructional strategies;
• Participate in the training of teachers in field test schools on the use of the new materials and instructional strategies;
• Participate in the collection of impact data;
• Take on other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:
• Certificate or Diploma in education (preferably primary level and in Literacy or Math subjects);
• 3 to 5 years in a similar position;
• 2 years in curriculum and or learning/teaching materials development;
• Strong oral and written Kinyarwanda and English skills;
• Proven ability to contribute effectively to team work;
• Microsoft office and general computer skills;
• Ability to design creative but focused learning activities;
• Ability to work under pressure and respect tight deadlines;
• Flexibility and creativity;
• Experience in working in audio/video production is a plus.
