Position Description:
We are seeking a GIS Technician to assist in the completion of the Check Your Watershed Day (CYWD) data amalgamation and reporting project. CYWD is a volunteer stream survey to determine baseflow and barriers to fish movement in small streams throughout an entire watershed. It has taken place since 2006 in watersheds across southern Ontario.
This position will be working out of the Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority administrative office in Port Hope located 2216 County Rd 28 (County Rd 28 and the 401). Some travel to Toronto will be required.
Position Responsibilities/Tasks:
• CYWD Data compilation
• CYWD Data analysis (ArcHydro)
• CYWD Map production
• Work with other team members to produce communication products
• Work under direction of GRCA staff
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• University/college course work in GIS, environmental sciences, engineering, hydrology
• Knowledge of GIS software (ArcInfo, ArcGIS) and import, export and translation protocols required
• Working knowledge of databases and spread sheets required
• Working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat an asset
• Ability to adapt to an environment of change
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
• A drivers license and regular access to a vehicle

• have been registered as a full-time student in 2010-2011 and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in 2011-2012;

• be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
