Job Summary:
The role of the New Product Introduction (NPI) Technologist is to provide
support in the development and testing of new products and the continuous
improvement of existing products. The NPI Technologist will work with the
Engineering staff to perform equipment performance and reliability testing, as
well as work to improve measurement and communication capacity of the existing
laboratory facility. The candidate must have a strong technical background and
interpersonal communication skills. The candidate must have the ability to
learn and adapt quickly, with prior hands-on HVAC experience preferred. The position
consists of a combination of task oriented duties requiring strong
time-management, and customer service interactions, with team-based problem
solving.
Essential Functions: Duties and Responsibilities
• Actively work alongside Engineers in the New Product Introduction (NPI)
process; perform research and testing as needed.
• Oversee performance testing of equipment in the climate chamber and on the
hydronic test bench. Gather, analyse, and document test results in a clear
manner.
• Work with production staff in construction procedures and building of
prototype equipment.
• Troubleshoot and service lab and prototype mechanical systems.
• Perform heat loss/heat gain calculations, equipment sizing/selection, and
duct design for customer sites. (training will be provided)
• Create and compile technical documentation for both internal and external use
(troubleshooting guides, installation manuals, spec. sheets, etc.). Writing
ability and ability to interpret and simplify complex technical instructions.
• Develop expertise in hands-on installation service and maintenance of
Ecologix equipment.
• Make occasional site visits to field installations for troubleshooting and
product repair when required.
• Stay abreast of the latest industry /technology trends.

Hours of operation: — 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with 1/2 hour lunch. Flex hours
available.

• Makes decisions within office policies, empowered to discuss customer issues
in a timely manner, out-of-scope issues escalated to Manager

Education:
College degree in Engineering Technology or equivalent
Experience:
0-3 years work experience in a trade (sheet metal, gas fitter, electrician,
plumber)
Certifications and Licenses: (Preferred)
HRAI Certificates (any)
Gas Fitter II, Oil and Propane, Refrigeration Licences
Manufacturers Training: Boilers, Radiant Heating, Heat Pumps, HVAC Controls,
etc.
Ozone Depletion Prevention (ODP)
Competencies (skills, knowledge, and attributes):
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills including Systems Analysis
• Strong technical understanding of HVAC Systems / Hydronic Systems
• Practical / Working knowledge of installation techniques of HVAC and Hydronic
Systems.
• Basic knowledge of metal duct work, and mechanical systems design
• Good working knowledge of computers, their related hardware, and software
• Working knowledge of drafting in AutoCAD
• Experience in 3D modeling in SolidWorks (an asset)
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to translate
technical jargon into “consumer friendly” language
• Excellent organizational / time management skills with an emphasis on
tracking, reporting, record keeping, and document follow through.
• Self-motivated; with an emphasis on ability to multi task, and a willingness
to find answers and solutions.
• Ability to adapt to rapid changes in procedures and processes
• Ability to take initiative, seeking opportunities for change, growth, and
improvement.
• Ability to adhere to all organizational policies and procedures.
• Ability to work with numbers, and accurately conduct mathematical
calculations and measurements.
