About: Dragonfly Farm Store, once a dream, now functions as a
successful, sustainable, ecological, humane and organic farm. Raising


a variety of animals (beef cattle, heritage pigs, chickens, ducks,
turkey, lamb, donkeys) vegetables and fruits respectfully on 70 acres
of owned land and 230 acres of rented land.

Located on the hilly clay soils of the Golden Valley just south west
of Chatsworth, Ontario. Prone to varying degrees of hostile, wretched
winter weather to warm summer days depicted on post cards, in these
conditions we farm with passion!

We allow and assist the carbon cycle and soil food web to flourish and
increase our farm lands fertility naturally, without synthetic inputs.
Growing food as it was once grown, and we believe how it should still
be grown.

Our goal to grow our farm business and provide new and exciting
offerings to our valued customers requires your help to reach the next
step in our farm dream development.

We are seeking an eager individual, or couple to share the role, with
lots of enthusiasm and a clear understanding of sustainable and
organic practices. There should be a comfort level in working with
animals, large tractors and older harvesting and hay equipment.

Terms of Employment: 1 Year Contract beginning Sept 1st 2015 – August
31st 2016 – Compensation a combination of Food/Lodging and Bi-Weekly
Salary
• 6 days per week from May to November
• 4 days per week from December to April
• 2 Weeks paid holidays
• Flexible hours – Some Weather Related
• All meals provided, days off you cook your own meals but food is supplied
• Private Accommodations with private entrance include a bedroom,
bathroom and kitchen
• Telephone, cell phone and internet
• Access to laundry facilities on farm

Primary Duties:
• Planting Cover Crops or disking
• Cut, rake and bale hay using older equipment (patience required)
• Taking Soil Samples
• Able to operate, or interest to learn how to swath and combine grain
• Pick up meat at butcher – drive a pick-up truck with a trailer
• Good carpentry skills
• Pastured Poultry experience an asset
• Complete morning and evening chores 2 days per week
• Hand weeding, hoeing, garden, green house and flower beds
• Assist with U-Pick planting and maintenance
• Greenhouse building & maintenance
• Planting (hand transplanting, as well as some greenhouse seeding)
• Irrigation set-up and maintenance
• Harvesting & washing produce
• Display and sell produce at Farm Store
• Assist customers in Farm Store or preform farm tours
• Re-stock freezers and clean farm store
• Packing orders
• Counting Inventory
• Maintaining farm infrastructure
• Assist with Bee Keeping
• A driver’s license is required
• Deliver wholesale and CSA Orders in the time allotted
• Able to text, email and properly communicate on the cell phone provided
• Lift Feed bags and put customers feed orders together (55lb bags)

General Requirements:
• Reliable transportation to and from the farm – parking space provided
• Clean animal stalls
• Able to work flexible schedule based on farm needs and weather conditions
• Ability to lift 40-60 pounds on a regular basis
• Bend over for long periods of time, work on knees and in crouched
positions in gardens
• Ability to work well as part of a team or independently
• Must be hard-working, reliable, honest and enthusiastic
• Able to follow directions, to do lists and work independently to
achieve work goals in time allotted
• Strong attention to detail
• Comfortable working around tractors/machinery and driving large vehicles
• Comfortable working around a variety of animals
• Comfortable serving customers and representing our farm business
• Comfortable working closely with 2 driven, ambitious, and slightly
strange farmers who are still learning how to farm

Assets:
• Fencing – Knowledge of High tensile and page wire and asset
• Previous organic or eco farming experience
• Understanding of soil sampling or cation exchange (ECE)
• Interest in long term employment – 1 Year Contract to start with
long term contracts available
• Genuine interest in supporting our farm dreams and assisting us in
meeting our goals
• Passion for Animals, Food and Organic Farming
