Research question I
Are secondary students in
Nsukwu community aware of the concept of drug abuse?
The respondents’ opinions to the research question one
in table 4.2 indicate that
secondary
students in Nsukwu community are aware of the concept of drug abuse
. This is in line with McCrystal et al.
(2007) who stated for many adolescents, drug abuse has now become a part of
their lives and perhaps may have now contributed to their academic failure.

Research question II
Are there causes of drug
abuse among secondary school students in Nsukwa community?
The respondents’ opinions to the research question two
in table 4.3 indicate that there are
causes
of drug abuse among secondary school students in Nsukwa community.
This is in agreement with
Akinyemi (2008) who pointed out that secondary school students commonly
initiate substance abuse during these crucial years thereby leading to drug
abuse as a result of depression,
trauma, stress, inability to cope
with some life’s situations, low self-esteem, social pressures and academic pressures.
Research question III
Are there effects of drug
abuse among secondary school students in Nsukwa community?
The respondents’ opinions
to the research question three in table 4.4 indicate that there are
effects of drug abuse among secondary school students
in Nsukwa community.
This is in agreement with Igwe and Ojinnaka (2010) who highlighted the effect of
drug abuse to include deaths, illnesses and disabilities resulting from
substance abuse, weaken immune system, increasing susceptibility to infections,
nausea, liver problems, brain damage, behavioural problems such as
aggressiveness, hallucinations, addiction, impaired judgment and loss of
self-control
Research question IV
Are there measures to
minimize drug abuse among secondary school students in Nsukwa community?
The respondents’ opinions to the research question
four in table 4.5 indicate that there are
measures to minimize drug abuse among secondary school
students in Nsukwa community.
This agrees with Dworkin (2006) who highlighted
measures to reduce the drug abuse to include parental care, promotion national anti-drug media campaign, ensuring
safe and drug-free schools and communities, imbibing mentoring initiative and
advocating drug abuse prevention initiative
