hypothesis I
There
is no significant relationship on the level of occurrence of child abuse among
the people in Ughelli metropolis.
is no significant relationship on the level of occurrence of child abuse among
the people in Ughelli metropolis.
From the result and the analysis of data collected,
the calculated x2 value is 34.151 is greater than the critical value
of 0.05 at 9 df 16.92, which leads to the rejection of the null research
hypothesis, while the alternative research hypothesis was accepted. The
researcher hereby concluded that there is significant relationship on the level of occurrence
of child abuse among the people in Ughelli metropolis. This is in line with Pinheiro (2015)
who stated that child abuse is a global phenomenon but in some part of the world it was
reported to be higher than others, stating that adverse childhood experiences
including verbal, physical and sexual abuse, as well as other forms of
childhood trauma.

Research hypothesis II
There
is no significant relationship on the possible causes of child abuse among the
people in Ughelli metropolis.
is no significant relationship on the possible causes of child abuse among the
people in Ughelli metropolis.
From the
result and the analysis of data collected, the calculated x2 value
is 51.33 is greater than the critical value of 0.05 at 9 df 16.92, which leads
to the rejection of the null research hypothesis, while the alternative
research hypothesis was accepted. The research question was positive and the
researcher concluded that there is significant relationship on the possible causes of child abuse among the
people in Ughelli metropolis. This is in line with Fontana (2009) who stated that child abuse is a complex phenomenon with
multiple causes No single factor can be identified as to why some adults behave
violently toward children. The World Health Organization (WHO) (2006)
identified multiple factors at the level of the individual, their
relationships, their local community, and their society at large, that combine
to influence the occurrence of child maltreatment. At the individual level,
such factors include age, sex, and personal history, while at the level of
society, factors contributing to child abuse include cultural norms encouraging
harsh physical punishment of children, economic inequality, and the lack of
social safety nets.

Research hypothesis III
There
is no significant relationship on the linkage between child abuse and the
increase in youth violence in Ughelli metropolis.
is no significant relationship on the linkage between child abuse and the
increase in youth violence in Ughelli metropolis.
From the result and the analysis of data collected,
the calculated x2 value is 30.69 is greater than the critical value
of 0.05 at 9 df 16.92, which leads to the rejection of the null research
hypothesis, while the alternative research hypothesis was accepted. The
research question was positive and the researcher concluded that there is significant relationship on the linkage
between child abuse and the increase in youth violence in Ughelli metropolis. This is in conformity with Golden (2009) who stated that children who get are
abused through being a witness to violence engage in different violent
behaviour to emulate what they had always experience. Stressing that children
who witness severe cases of child abuse have the tendency to engage in armed
robbery, arson, murder, etc.

Research hypothesis IV
There
is no significant relationship on remedies to the issue of child abuse in
Ughelli metropolis.
is no significant relationship on remedies to the issue of child abuse in
Ughelli metropolis.
From the
result and the analysis of data collected, the calculated x2 value
is 25.3 is greater than the critical value of 0.05 at 9 df 16.92, which leads
to the rejection of the null research hypothesis, while the alternative
research hypothesis was accepted. The research question was positive and the
researcher concluded that there is significant relationship on remedies to the issue of child abuse in
Ughelli metropolis. This is in
line with Ross
(2006) who stated that in other to minimize child abuse, the causes of child
abuse must be recognised and also to proffer adequate solution according to the
understanding of the factors causing the occurrence of child abuse.
